Surprised no one mentioned Clean, Shaven - www.imdb.com/title/tt0106579/

Fantastic piece of work.

I love "Angst" but "Funny Games" is kinda mainstream movie. I didn't like it much.

I suggest you to check out "Frustré" aka "The Weirdo" for the english subtitles version. Both are on youtube

There are a lot of movies that are similar to Angst in that they are dark drama/crime/horror movies that focus on the killer's perspective.

Like others already mentioned, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is pretty similar. There's also a lesser known serial killer flick that people often compare to Henry, which is Confessions of a Serial Killer (1985).

There are a few "video nasties" that fall under this same genre: Don't Go in the House, Maniac, and The Driller Killer. I only liked The Driller Killer, though. That one has more to it than just violence. It's more of a low-budget, art-house horror film.

There was also a remake of Maniac that came out in 2012, starring Elijah Wood as the serial killer. I think it's an improvement over the original, but it mainly suffers with some bad acting on Wood's part. Besides that, the movie's similar to Angst because it combines unique cinematography with disturbing violence.

Another one to check out is Tony (2009), which is a British serial killer movie that has some dark humor mixed in.

However, I think the best one is Dahmer (2002), which stars Jeremy Renner before he achieved Hollywood fame. He does an amazing job playing Jeffrey Dahmer, and it's just an overall great movie. It's not as violent as Angst, but it's still a disturbing and haunting character study. It's similar to Angst in the sense that it's more artistically made and not just exploitative trash (like a lot of other first-person "killer" movies).

Welcome to Fright Night....for real.

I think Benny's Video is a closer Haneke film than Funny Games. Angst reminds me a little of another Austrian film, Revanche; on the surface it's very different but murderousness and revenge are explored and intense mundane activity isa feature of both films.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

I'd throw it on a double bill with Der Fan (The Fan) from 1982, both of them have nearly the same atmosphere and themes, even if Der Fan is a bit more New-Wavey.
