There is NO WAY...

...a sweet, personable, beautiful young lady like Carrie would ever put up with that obnoxious, thoughtless, gluttonous, selfish, ignorant, disingenuous, uneducated, unsophisticated, insufferable buffoon. She is WAY out of his league. Oh I forgot a$$hole...or would "whole a$$" be more accurate?

reply

You mean the sweet, personable, nipple twisting, screaming, yelling Carrie?

reply

Yes, that one. Most often she has more than legitimate reason to be p!ssed at him and is therefore perfectly justified in screaming and/or yelling at him. For just one example, the episode I just watched. He's agreed to go to an Overeaters Anonymous meeting. He sees the vegetables that are offered, balks, spies the cake & donuts in the room across the hall so goes in there instead. Gluttonous. Turns out it's the room for men in abusive relationships. So now he's not only NOT going where he's agreed with her to go, he lies to her face about it, tells tales about her to the group that are so grotesquely exaggerated he's now flagrantly lying to them as well. Disingenuous. As for the nipple twisting, granted she usually picks the wrong moments but in the right moments, some of us really like that LOL!

Great episode! One of my favorites! "Furious Gorge"

One of my favorite scenes/lines:

Carrie (looking at Doug's weight gain): Are you sure that you're not getting fatter?

Doug (throwing out a lie to try to save himself): Well, that's the thing. When you're on a diet, you gain weight before you lose weight. In fact, that's the group's motto. "You gain weight before you lose it."

Carrie: That's a stupid motto.

Doug: Well, they're fat. They're not Shakespeare.

reply

Yeah that was hysterical. Not to mention surprising that Doug has ever even heard of Shakespeare!

reply

Exactly! "Doug" and "Shakespeare" in the same sentence? Something can't be right!

He really was a buffoon. But, a likeable one.

Edit: Just for clarification, Doug was the buffoon. Not Shakespeare.

reply

Lol, in Furious Gorge, it is hilarious when Doug is struggling to describe an Overeaters meeting to Carrie, as he has never been to one, and doesn't know what they are like.

"We talked about famous fat people, like the lady on the Practice. Then we talked about famous skinny people, like Stan Laurel and that other lady on the Practice."

Carrie: "And you want to look like Stan Laurel?"

It is just so stupid it's hilarious.

Doug: "From your lips to God's ears."

reply

I'm cracking up just reading this shit

reply

Totally agree with you. Her anger was usually based on him doing stupid things. Sometimes even terrible things. Like when he broke her down and made her a wreck because he couldn't handle her saying that he should lose some weight. So he started picking at her until she didn't have any self esteem left. Absolutely terrible. And yes he said he was sorry at the end but the fact that he even did that to her was incredibly cruel.

"I will not be strong armed by threats against my laundry"

reply

We must not be watching the same show because I find carrie completely insufferable. There really isn't one thing I like about her.

reply

How bout those gorgeous brown eyes, beautiful face and hot, rockin body?

reply

Leah is my type of chic...

reply

Mine too. I love a saucey woman. They are tigers in bed and great lovers. Plus Carrie is sexy as hell with a body that won't quit.

reply

Thats because you aren't a submissive little simp like the OP who gets off on being dominated by a woman and hence actually thinks how a man should, the OP probably takes it up the ass with a strap on if he actually thinks that about her and isn't trolling. Every time that bitch comes on screen when Im watching re runs I instantly get annoyed. Whats almost worse than watching her act like that is watching her try to act sexy especially the seasons where shes a fat ass, talking to strange guys like "hey baby" or saying "come to momma" to doug its literally gag inducing.

reply

Many of those words describe Carrie as well. The main exception is the gluttony, that's just Doug. Carrie would sometimes like to think she is more educated and sophisticated, sometimes she aspires to be more educated and sophisticated but in reality she isn't really.

reply

Carrie can be somewhat obnoxious, yes, but I don't see any of the other words I used in her at all. She's pretty much always mindful of his feelings, thinking about things she can do or get for him. It's rare for Doug to think of anyone other than Doug, and he's forever plotting ways to get over on her. She may not be any more formally educated or sophisticated than Doug but she's still considerably smarter than he is, by at least 30 or 40 I.Q. points. She has a WHOLE lot more common sense, and she at least has the desire to further educate/better herself whereas Doug has zero motivation for self-improvement. He's perfectly happy to remain right where he is; no ambition whatsoever to learn anything new, gain even a modicum of class or advance in a career. In other words, if she doesn't already know how she would at least like to learn how to play bridge or chess while Doug has no inclination to advance beyond slap-jack and checkers.

I've the notice mostly all the sitcoms that I loved, the couples are similar to the King of Queens - Hot wife & not so good looking husband...

reply

Roseanne was another example.

reply

Roseanne is hot?

reply

I always thought John Goodman was a good match for Roseanne. He was kind of cute, even though overweight.

Like Mike & Molly, they are matching pair, but I never saw a sitcom where the men is good looking & the wife is ugly...

Me neither, and I have certainly never seen it in real life! Men are MUCH more looks-oriented in a partner than women are.

Men who demand a beautiful wife are said to be within their rights, but a woman who wants a guy to make a decent living at his job, is a money-hungry, gold-digging bitch.

I have seen good-looking men especially when they hit 40 (hate the word ugly) with a non attractive wife cos sometime when the woman hit a certain age & having kids, they let themselves go in looks or weight becomes a factor after birth...

reply

Yes that is true, when the unknown factors of who will hold up better into middle-age come into play. Time is kind to some, and when it is uneven in a couple, that happens.

In dating situations, of friends and aquaintances, I have seen it, a guy who is maybe a 5, rejecting a girl who is a 7, because he wants a 9.

He is probably still single lol - I'm a 5, but I get realistic with the woman, I know what I can get or not, it ain't about confidence it's being realistic - I doubt Leah would even look at me once unless I had the cash, it's understandable those type of girl who R already rich & famous, R looking for some guy who equivalente to their lifestyle & income...

reply

When substantial wealth comes into the equation, it is hard for both genders. Everyone wants someone who is with them for who they are inside, not just for the money they can get. Unless someone really doesn't care!

Some interviewer asked Melania Trump once, long ago, would she be with Donald if he wasn't so rich? Melania said, would he be with me if I didn't look like this?

Gee Woodle, Space Kadoodle!

reply

Both reasons are superficial but Id say going after someone over their looks still means you like SOMETHING about them, she just wanted his money and the fact that she would have sex with someone as vile as him for money makes her a whore plain and simple, absolutely no redeeming value in a person like that.

I have a friend in his mid 20's who is very good looking man. He is a personal trainer and has a 6 pack. Great body and he has a nice face too.

His girlfriend of 3 yrs is slightly overweight and butt ugly. She's not even pretty.

I was surprised by the pairing cos him being a good looking guy could easily pull 9/10 looking girls and has done so in the past.

So it does happen.

reply

So it does happen.

Of course, it happens.

No one's claim would be that it absolutely never happens.

It's just a matter of probabilities (not possibilities).

In all (reasonable) likelihood, it would not happen.

You yourself expressed surprise that it did happen (in your friend's case).

Your surprise is testament, then, that it was unlikely to happen, even though it did in fact happen.

Hence, your surprise.

It is the exception, that proves the rule.
