Guitarwork

I think it's a good movie but one thing that annoys the hell out of me
is penn's acting when he's playing the guitar. I play the guitar myself and it's all too clear that penn has never held a guitar in his hands before.
when he's playing high notes his left hand is al the way down at the head of the guitar, next he's playing low sequences and his hand jumps up & down the fretboard. this crashes the credibility of penn's performance, pity... :o(
it's perfectly possible to make it seem realistic, even ralph macchio
can bring a far more difficult piece perfectly convincing (crossroads).
best guitar player in the world my ***

Don't you think the poor looking playing adds to the humor?

I really like movies about musicians but Penn's playing totaly ruinned it for me. I paused the movie 10 minutes after starting it and got here to read the obvious. I don't know if I want to continue.

Penn should have asked for hand replacement on close-ups.Seriously it's embarassing, he lost some of my respect, I really like him.

Remember how good did Denzel Washington look in Mo' Better Blues? He played like a real trumpeter. He had to practice hundreds of hours for that part. Now, trumpet differs from the guitar, quite a lot, I know. I'm just saying, Penn should have demanded hand replacement for a better and more professional result.

Edit:
I watched it. It was a good movie. 7/10
