Actually, Henry Czerny, Polly Shannon, Vlasta Vrana and the others do very well in this too. Except for Robin Gammell, as he seemed rather mush-mouthed as far as his performance in this is concerned.

I'm hoping this will be getting a Criterion release in the near future, as this is a truly underrated work of art, that few people (unfortunately) have even heard of. The scene where Vlasta Vrana's character is accidentally pushed down the stairs by Henry Czerny, has to go down as one of the most thrilling, heart racing
(no pun intended, as I know Vrana dies from a heart attack and not from the actual fall) scenes in film history (I'd say it even blows the famous car chase scene in "The French Connection" out of the water).

I know it's impossible to reverse engineer things at this point and make it possible for "The Girl Next Door" to have won (or at least nominated) "Best Picture", so I at least hope it is treated as all latter day cinematic masterpieces are treated, and is released on DVD/Bluray as part of the Criterion Collection.

I find it funny that the OP posts like this movie is somehow beneath Gary Busey. I like Busey too, but he's been in a lot of trash. And this movie was at least enjoyable "trash" of the genre.
