Hoping the current film brings new viewers to this version

All 3 versions have much to recommend them, but I still like this mini-series the best even though people barely know of its existence. It deserves to be seen!

I agree!

Michael Sheen I liked better though (Nigel Terry is simply way too old and not good-looking enough for my taste), and this Bathsheba is a little too weak and frowny in the second half - but the right age (and hair colour) at least! :-)

Best Gabriel by far! Not as moody and silent as the new version - though I liked all three male parts in the 2015 version (I somehow feel more sympathy with Troy than Bathsheba every time...^^), but it was such a stripped-down version and lacked emotion when the male leads weren't in the frame...beautiful landscapes do not suffice...

Anyway, this is a very true adaptation for the majority of it (still for some reason some of the powerful original dialogue mi8ssing...:-( ).

Yes, it deserves to be seen indeed!!

It did.
I couldn't believe I didn't know of this.

I also hope it brings more viewers to this version, it is FABULOUS! I also love this version best, although I really enjoyed the 2015 version a lot. This version has more time to make things more clear. It also feels very authentic, like a real farm, real workers, etc, which makes the story seem so real.

Nathaniel Parker IS Gabriel Oak. I LOVE him!!!! What a hero, and so perfectly played. I also think Jonathan Firth is a better Sgt. Troy than the new one. I like both Bathshebas. This version is just wonderful!!!!

There are just 2 things I prefer in the 2015 version. 1. Mr. Boldwood. The '15 version is more attractive and it helps you understand Bathsheba's dilemna better. I would have been tempted by him!

The other thing I prefer is the ending kiss!!!! I just LOVE how Gabriel plants one on Bathsheba at the end of the '15 version. He deserved to do that!!! The '98 version is missing an ending kiss all together. WHY DID THEY DO THAT? It really needed one in the '98 version. The '15 version is one of the best ending kisses in a movie, maybe only second to the one in North and South! :)

It's interesting that all three versions come out at 7.1 on IMDB. It's like a ceiling that no matter how hard they try they cannot exceed.

I rated this a 9. The only thing that really bothered me is that Boldwood loses his head at the end. Didn't see that coming and don't think he was really the type to have done that.
