Warning You Have 30 seconds to read this

Ok I do not understand the bogus warning to the audience, was it truly needed.(The shock value of it was great) But the violence that followed after it truly let me down. Back what you advertise. Also, the idea that he does not go after any of the men that harmed him truly upsets me. After you have made love to your daughter I think it is time you go truly all the way over the deep end and follow through. Just because you do not kill, but still have sex with your daughter does not make you any more sane! Also the porn scene was one that could be removed, what was the point.(We already knew he was dick before that scene LOL.)

2 questions to anyone

Does Gasper have any more works being released soon?

Where can I watch Carne, Noe has truly caught my attenion as a genius of our time, but the scary part of that is 1. once you become too intellgent you become crazy 2. and I am a 15 year old boy that loves the ideas that this man has

This is and IMDB message board disscusion for a film. What do you honestly expect? Your fault for reading ahead and being nosy.

You're an idiot. These are meant to be read. This should've had a spoiler tag.

reply

Yeah, dummy. Your fault for wanting to read about a movie before you watch it, it takes too much effort to type SPOILER.

reply

These are meant to discuss the movie. Movies are usually discussed after one has seen it, as before seeing it one does not know the contents of it and thus discussion is pointless.

You put a title like "warning you have 30 seconds to read this" on a post and expect someone not to read it? I was checking to see if the film sounded like something that I wanted to see (netflix recommended it to me), so I sought out IMDB and the boards. How hard is it to type *spoiler* ?

I am beginning to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!

reply

'The Message Board' is for people who want to dissect, discuss, and offer their opinions about films 'after' they have seen them. If you just want to know how people feel about a movie, read the 'User Reviews', or just read Ebert.

Oh really? Sh!t. I missed the rule that said I had to watch a film before I come here. Thanks. I have been coming to IMDb for years and have broken the rule, maybe thousands of time. Are the rules written down somewhere??

reply

You come here, you risk the film being spoiled. Simple as that. No ifs, no buts.

reply

good quote, great movie.

bs, ...EvilLilElmo is right.

you wanted to know something about this movie?
why not watch it and then comment on it
or check out the opinions of others...?

*ouch* that is your own fault, my dear...

spoiler-warnings are unnecessary.

He also said he had sex with his daughter and didn't kill the men. You fúcking dope.

There are many reasons why someone might come to IMDb *before* they watch a movie, maybe *instead of* watching the movie.

That is the whole purpose, for example, of the Parental Advisory section and almost the whole purpose of the Ratings.

I don't have time to watch every film that has ever been released. For the most part, I like to watch films that I will enjoy. If I see enough reasons in IMDb (poor reviews, advice in the Parental Advisory section, low ratings, discussion on the message board) to avoid a film, I will choose to watch something else.

And, to be honest, I don't need your permission to come here.

reply

Agreed!

reply

It wasn't the violence the movie warned for, but what happened in the scenes. I mean quite a few people could be shocked by the things happening. But I believe the warning is also there for effect.

But I also connect these titles with Godards Week-End. The title makes you realise its a movie, and also the style reminds me a lot of that Godard.

And you really could have put a spoiler tag there.

Btw.: Which porn scene? The one in the cinema? I think it's there for the voice over, and to show a bit more in detail what kind of man the butcher is.

Uhhhh, yes it does make you more sane.

I have no seen the movie, so i dont know how it was presented and how he went about it, but there are many people that think consensual incest is completely ok.

And many who think that murder is one of the worst things you can do.
ESPECIALLY murdering your own offspring.

This is scary to hear a 15 year old obviously getting his mind warped by sick media.

reply

"corpus_callosum" do you know how *beep* up you are? The film was not saying that 'consensual incest is completely ok'. She was almost more mentally unstable than he was! You need help, and i just hope you never have kids.

WHOAH! WHOAH! WHOAH! HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!

RE-READ WHAT I SAID!

i said "there are many people". i didn't say *I* was one of those people.

are you ignorant of other cultures in the world where this is common?

are you ignorant of the fact that figures in the bible such as the "righteous" Abraham participated in incest?

are you aware that incest does not just mean parents and children but also siblings, and other familial relationships?

are you aware that incest doesn't necessarily mean that EITHER participant is under the age of 21?

did you read my statement that i have not seen the movie and didn't know what the context was but i found it disturbing that somebody would justify murder by saying the murderer had already commited some other sin?

please re-read my post and reflect on why you jumped to such crazy, damning and accusatory assumptions.

@John_Acrob

and you even claim that i said that was the message of the movie?

jesus christ, not only did i NOT say anything like that, i also said i had not seen the movie.

wow....... you really need to take some reading comprehension classes.

He didn't go after the men because despite all of his rage and anger he's a total pussy that only has the guts to stand up to those weaker than him. See his assault of his wife, and how he only went after the bartender once he had a gun.

The porn scene was there to serve as an exploration of his attitudes towards relationships. Pay attention, dude.

You don't become crazy by becoming too intelligent. You just become so convinced you're better than everyone else that it comes out as insanity.

I don't think you actually understand a damn thing about Noe's ideas. Really dude... grow up.

Are you an American C un t? Must be with the word "pussy" and "dude".

reply

Is it any different than "twat" and "bloke"? Can't blame a person for where they were born.

reply

I think the porn scene is also there as a reference to Taxi Driver. I caught a couple of them in there...

*spoilers* (not that it matters anymore)

I think that's about the only time I've heard of someone being "let down" by a man shooting his daughter post-coitus, letting her bleed out for 5 minutes, then shooting her in the head, all of which is vividly depicted on-camera.

Poor li'l kid. Sorry you were let down by that scene. You might want to consider what an earlier poster said about intelligence not making you crazy, thinking you're better than others makes you crazy.

i liked the interstitials, personally. More than suspense they gave the movie a certain gravitas and style. it also played on the theme of morals. noe is asking the audience where their morals are, if they're capable of watching what will happen next. the bullets firing between the screen changes also built up to that scene.

and as for the ending, i thought it was a pleasant surprise. the massacre in the bar denouement you talk about would have been a major let down. obvious is the word that comes to mind. the ending is twisted and again brings up the question of morals. where do we stand between murder and incest? in a way you start to see this guy's point of view. well executed

reply

it's kind of confusing the way the it was ended for me. The music sets a tone that causes confusion as he's feeling his daughters breasts. Kind of like, things are going to be ok for him, but yet he's actually fondeling his own daughter.

Obviously when he has sex with her and murders her it's a visual portrayal of what his intentions are.

Like everyone has stated, he's brought across as a coward. It seems all the narration is him trying to build courage and convince him self that it's a good idea to commit murder against these people. I guess the most shocking moment, more so than thought and end scene depicting the incest, is the fact that there was ZERO lead up to the fact that he had intention to abort his child.

I guess by the way the movie flows it was just a random act? obviously the next 5 minutes of the film is him going over what the repercussions of his act are going to be, but that does not necessarilly mean he didn't think about doing it before hand.

I don't know what kind of moral it's supposed to deliver? Is this a biopic of what the poor life in paris leads to? or is it supposed to be universal? I've heard theory that Gaspar may have made it as propaganda for the French, but i don't see that.

It was shocking. I was most shocked that he didn't get smoked by anyone for being such a duechebag. I was incredibly shocked when he killed his unborn child. For some reason I could expect the incest.

oh hey, i got some spoilers in my post... herhrhdhrhd

I just saw noe's "carne" - at least that's what it's called in spanish - and it helps the understanding of this film. it's a short movie he did a a few years before this movie. My apologies if I'm just repeating known information....

<<morals? they were left at the door to the movie theater!>>

my feelings exactly.. movies like this occupy a very special place in society. first, a really troubled mind had to write this. then, a really troubled mind had to produce this. lastly, the people who view this fall into 2 catagories: the ones who watch it as part of their profession and are really committed to helping the real-life sick trash as portrayed in this film, and everyone else. To those who fall in the "everyone else" category such as the 15 year old who started this thread, did you actually spend money to sit and watch this for 93 minutes? Why? Didn't you feel "used" afterwards, like a prostitute? And they wonder why things like Virginia Tech happen..

reply

So you belong to the people who think the dark side of reality shouldn't be exposed, it should be hidden under the carpet and never mentioned.

Let me explain my point of view. I have some (or many) questions about God, and I have no answers. Whatever answers might be, I am afraid that they would either deny His existence and/or deny eternal after-death life, and/or change many of standard dogmas. But I never did and never will ask any religious person, especially not a priest or theologian. If these person have a firm faith, I don't want to be the one to disturb or shatter it. I truly believe that their faith is more worth preserving than my questions being answered.

But in this movie we deal with very human things. And humans are not perfect, nothing human will give us eternal life (if it can be given), nothing can keep us in hope till our last breath. So whatever we (or movie) say, think, discuss, suspect, learn, admire, hate, write, scream about human nature won't make a disastrous effect on any more-or-less sane and more-or-less adult person because we know enough about human nature that exploring it won't lead to tragedy.

It is not true that a movie about human relations and troubled society makes people lose mind and kill themselves or each other. It is the reality that they see around them, human relations and troubled society they see when they turn their eyes away from the screen.

To find a part of ourselves in troubled characters is extremely disturbing experience, but a first step to handle it. Denying that these things exist in reality and in ourselves is delaying this first step to the moment when it might be too late to start handling them.

What a great stance to take, my hat's off to ya!

reply

You truly got it, besides the character being a complete hypocrite cowardly sick of his ill fate, anyone can still identify with some of the verborragy dropped by him. We also should remember that his cold take on human relations are results of everything he has been deprived from in his life. He has never experienced love nor he could.

If you feel like you are a saint and never had doubts or even violent, revengeful thoughts about something I smell *beep*

1- because you don't have it
2- because you don't allow people to have it

That is the point of the morals thing in the beggining of the movie. The guy is holding a gun and saying, this is my moral. You are practically doing the same, but without the gun you know? It is called law and there is guns to enforce it.

Anyway, sometimes life appears to be something out of a movie, but in reality, it is way worse/better.
