Suspect interview

Anyone know what Rene Russo said to the quiet thief during the interview at the police station?

I came on here with the same question. I found this in an earlier thread:

She's speaking German.

She says:
Do you like to watch gangster films? (Then something I always miss completely.)

Your family comes from Romania.

He asks for a lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) and she points out that he is not a citizen (Staatsberger) and doesn't have the same rights.

She basically threatens him to be held as a security risk by secret police because foreigners without visas make the US government nervous.

I'm adding my comments about this same post (which was by doublerose) from another thread ("'Romanian' (or w/e) Catherine Banning Translation") about the translation of Catherine's interview of the quiet thief, because doublerose's post was copied in this thread.

***********
In reference to doublerose's translations, which I appreciate:

Catherine was trying different European languages to get a reaction from the quiet thief -- first French, then German. When he reacted to German, and she said the rest of the dialogue, then off-camera she presumably got info from him in German, which they both spoke, even though she did not speak Romanian. She then explained to Detective McCann how the Romanians got into the theft.

However, I think she said they were recruited by intermediaries (thus leaving Thomas Crown undetected, at that point) in Little Odessa (Brighton Beach), which I think is primarily for Russians. I think Romanians would more likely be found at: Astoria Blvd.; The Bronx; or Staten Island (based on some online sites like Wikipedia).

There is nothing shown or even mentioned about the police trying to find the middleman, which would seem to be yet another plot hole in what is -- IMHO -- a very entertaining movie, although very morally twisted.

Anyway --

After "Do you like to watch gangster films?" in German, for the line that doublerose said "(Then something I always miss completely.)", Catherine adds, "with Edward G. Robinson."

I think the rest of doublerose's comments are correct, as far as I can tell -- and thanks for those!
