Big plot hole

How does Mr. Crown manage to steal the other painting before setting off the fire alarm to expose the Monet? His stealing it didn't have much to do with the ending plot anyways since he arranged someone to give it to Catherine (Where we later see her have it mailed to the police. (This is when the shutters re-opened after automatically being closed. Then afterwards a painting is missing. Did the writers simply get bored and refrain from offering any subtle suggestion on how he was able to get past the sealed off section to steal it? And what exactly was the significance of stealing it? My last question isn't much of a plothole, just something deliberately left out. What was that organic looking concoction we see Catherine drinking? "What is that?" - "You don't want to know." Oh no, I did want to know.

I could not figure that out either. That does seem to be a plot hole to me, and unnecessary.

I think it's less to do with boredom and more to do with Crown's ingenuity; he always ahead of everybody with his elaborate schemes leaving out certain details, and this time around, not only has he fooled the cops, Russo, but the audience too. How does he do it? I don't know. Chances are the writers don't know either and, yeah, it does seem like a bit of a cheat, but not really a plothole. ...As for why he stole that particular painting, it's the one Russo said she would have taken earlier on in the film instead of the Monet.

Totally agree. We're privvy (as the audience) to the elaborate and clever way that he stole one painting from right under the nose of security.

The mechanics of the second theft are simply not explained to us, we're left to wonder as are the police and Catherine.

That doesn't make it a plot hole, just demonstrates his ingenuity.

That's not a plot hole. A plot hole is when something happens that is completely illogical or impossible.

Him stealing the painting was simply unexplained. There are dozens of perfectly logical ways that he could have stolen the painting. Which way he used we'll never know.

Very likely the guy who handed it to Catherine was the one who took it, while all eyes were on the multitude of bowler hats.
