Big Plot Hole

Forensics would proof that the blonde was killed AFTER the burglary in the nightclub had taken place - hence Bill would be in the clear for the killing of the blonde.
Watching the movie in a chronological order would make everybody realize this immediately.

That's possible, but I think the story is trying to say that Bill has been following the blonde long before he actually committed the burglary.
His twisted mind, unbeknownst to him of course, 'created' Cobb. He really believed Cobb was doing all this, had corrupted him.

I figured Cobb was all in his mind. I don't know what his motives were in killing the woman though, are we to assume she walked in on him while he was in her flat?
It seemed he was just a very disturbed young man.

That was just my impression of the film. I could be wrong. Can anyone confirm the ending for me?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

That is not the impression I get. He followed Cobb while he had long hair, he did not follow her until he cut his hair.

But Cobb interacts with people in the film.

The motive the film gives is that Cobb killed her since the Bald guy asked him to since she was blackmailing the bald guy.

My take is that Cobb was hired by the bald guy to kill the blonde and setup someone to take the fall. That way if the evidence of the bloody rug is found, the young man will be implicated in that murder as well.

I've thought this too. It's possible that the forensic technology back then wouldn't have been accurate enough to say exactly when she was killed - if Bill attends the police station the next day (like he said he would) then she must have been killed within 24 hours of the nightclub robbery so maybe they can only pinpoint it to within a 24 hour window. Or maybe the forensics haven't come back yet and they're just going with what they have at that time.
Even without forensics though, it's entirely possible that The Blonde could have been out and about and been seen or even interacted with people after the nightclub guy was taken to hospital.
That said, would it matter if eventually Bill could prove that The Blonde only died after the nightclub burglary? They've still got the weapon with his fingerprints and the relevant blood on it. It just means he killed her afterwards and broke her fingers for fun, which actually makes him look even worse!
