What does the whistling mean?

When O'Donnell and R. Kennedy meet the embassador of the Soviet Union, O'Donnell stays in the hallway whistling. Does that whistling signify anything (more than just "luck" which is what he wanted to whistle to Robert) or was it some sort of melody I did not realise?

Its "Danny boy" wich is a sort of an iconic folksong related to the irish..JFK and RFK was irish so there you have it..

It came across as rude and summed up the americans attitude throughout the film which is we'll do what we want in your house.

which is we'll do what we want in your house.

I'm pretty sure I heard a secretary say to RFK that Ambassador Whatshisname was ready "in your office" which would have been at the Justice Department

It was an attempt at intimidation, the russian aide was scared crapless, while the american 'friend' is relaxed and whistling.

I vaguely recall KO'D saying something like: I'll try to whistle you up some luck. They were nervous, everyone's lives were hanging in the balance, and he wanted to take his mind off his worries.

It means "Hey, I wanna play the lead in that scene too, even if I'm not in the room!"

reply

Yep, that’s probably it.
