Ray Liotta should have lost weight

Ray liotta's face looks abnormally bloated and fat in this movie. He clearly gained weight, but my question is WHY? Frank Sinatra was skin and bones until his very late years, and Ray was already too big to resemble Frank. So why did he gain weight making him look even less like Frank?? It was quite distracting to see puffy faced Ray Liotta trying to be Frank Sinatra.

I like Ray Liotta, but he seriously could have put some more effort in creating a physical resemblance by losing a few pounds. The references to Sinatra being just a "skinny wop" made virtually no sense with Ray Liotta in the role.

I thought he was miscast. Too tall, heavy and didn't resemble Sinatra in any way.

Yes. At the time depicted in the movie, Sinatra was still lean. He didn't put on much weight until he started getting old. Liotta is a good actor, but they could have hired somebody who would have evoked Sinatra more effectively.
