True story

How is this able to be a true story when it happened so long ago. Frank goes into detail throughout the entire memoir. I'm really not sure how these books are written, so can someone explain this to me?

Some of the older people in Limerick condemned the book as lies

They wouldn't remember it nearly as well as the kid who experienced it directly. It was his life. They would not have been paying such close attention.

When the book came out one journalist went to Limerick and asked two old guys in a pub if McCourt wasn't exaggerating how bad the house where he lived was. They said not only was he not exaggerating, but the place was a lot more disgusting than the book could even explain.

Well here is several people from the Limerick Lanes recollections that contrdict McCourts in many cases. Many of these stories were put into writing before AA came out so that what they said and their recollections are not affected by his book whatsoever.

Also actor Richard Harries who also grew up there in Limerick and knew the family calls McCourt a liar and worse.
