Okay, I agree with most of the people that alot of the highlander movies sucked.. But Endgame is really good! I loved it. It rivals the original Highlander in my opinion. Though it is a bit cheesy with the whole Japanese scenario. But I loved the way they adopted the religion scenario and absorbed it into the Highlander world. Because religion is what keeps the world spinning for some people. And it shows even the most religious and forgiving can go bad.
sharei agree with you that this film could rival the first. The story and plot of this movie was great. It had themes and followed them through. It had an original highlander immortal love premise which i thought would have been hard to come up with to rival the originals. some of the lines and acting were a bit cheesy but then again so was the original highlander. The soundtrack was amazing and imo tho it didnt leave as big a lasting impression as the first was far better and better suited. The direction was another thing i loved, each shot was expertly picked and only went to show the quality of the movie. It also had such touching scenes between Connor and Duncan, culminating in the last, and the script for that was gorgeous.
There are nit pickers out there that have a go at Duncan getting married tho it was stated in the tv series that he never did. Well his marriage didnt last that long so that is what he might have meant, also continuity isnt something highlander excels in. Immortals fighting on what might have been holy ground, there has never been any conclusive proof in the series or films that fighting on holy ground would do anything (other than destroying a sword lol), there might have been hints about pompei but we dont kno if that was a coincidence or not. I like to think of holy ground being a rule that is kept among the immortals and as these immortals didnt really give a damn about the rules then it doesnt really matter.
I really dont understand why people dont like this film. Its one of my favourites if not thee favourite.

We didnt get any explanation as to how Connor was immortal again when he said at the end of the first he was mortal, nor did he even mention the prize he got in the first one. The 3rd one did not link up right at all.
And are you forgetting Rachel and Heather, two characters and the same actors that provided a link to the first one.

When Kane and the other two break through Nakano's seal and escape the cave, Connor feels his Immortality return, and the Prize slip away. Conner even speaks about it in a voiceover:

shareThe movie only works if you're a casual fan of the first movie and the series... like we're talking you haven't seen an episode or the movie in years, but just have vague memories of them. Then it works okay as a late night TV movie.
But I tell you, after I finished watching all the HL TV episodes, back to back (over the course of six months), I went to watch Endgame, and man... what a let down! The series, though struggling in its 6th season, ended on a high note, and Endgame just took it off the deep end.
At least Endgame is a masterpiece compared to that bottom-feeding crap that was "The Source" (ugh, a nightmare!).

Endgame rivals the original??, are you joking. You mean the original (Queen original soundtrack, Sean Connery, the original idea, Kurgan). Have you seen the Villians of Endgame?, they were jokes/clowns. Come on!!
The Queen soundtrack was great but the celtic sounds of endgame fitted well with the film and while kell and kate were no kurgan, cheesy lines aside there presance in the film helped the theme of revenge and redemption.
yes sean connery was great but by that logic that having him in a film automatically makes it a winner then highlander 2 would be top on your list.
Highlander Endgame had a story to tell with plot and substance, and whilst its not to everyones taste it has better credibility than any of the other sequals.
i would like to state i'm a fan of cinema first, THEN a fan of Highlander.
This was a bad film, hence the low rating, pure and simple.
The whole highlander saga has simple gotten worse with every season/film! The fault was simple.
It never had a GOOD COMPLETE backstory! Lazy screen writting lead to even lasier sequels!

I just finished watching the last half hour of this movie and know it's almost a decade old, but there's talk of a remake already?
The poster is referring to the remake of the original 1986 Highlander, not an Endgame remake.

Donnie Yen should have been the main villain and that bald ugly clumsy english actor doesn't have the talent to use a sword and his character sucks.
Again a ridiculous story about a religious fanatic,it would be better an immortal who wanted to rule the humans and Donnie was the best to do it, his fight against Duncan was super.
I'm also glad that Christopher Lambert who lacks charisma died to let the real highlander Duncan become the only and true king.
The thing that might have been the reason why the ratings are so low is because they combined both the original actor who started the Highlander franchise with the TV show Highlander Duncan McLeod. That is just a theory there that you could possibly say is possible that the ratings were low. Plus, they killed off Connor in this movie as well which might not have gone very well with other Highlander fans. Those are a few theories there to think about.

I have to agree a bit that I have always enjoyed Endgame. Source was crap, and if anyone seriously says that Highlanders 2 and 3 are better, I just have to say wow...
2 and 3 were bad... 2 was just a joke, 3 was bad. Bruce Payne was one of the better things, though I wish Donnie Yen had a better part.
I think there probably is a link to the low ratings and the fact Connor got knocked off. Thought, his death was one of the best flash back scenes really ever seen.
I just did not like the idea that Connor was killed off but I did love that they combined the TV show with the movie though. This was a very good film to watch.

I like this film a lot too. Not quite as good as the original in my opinion but not far off.

'Endgame' sucked because:
1. Immortals are created in a most silly way (Duncan stabbing Kate with 2d6 additional damage; if immortals really were created like that, then you'd have millions upon millions of contenders to the prize)
2. Kell coming out of nowhere as the new big baddie racking more heads than the Kurgan
3. The continuity (not one shred, and I didn't like or watch the TV series)
4. No Queen
5. The watchers are plain incompetent, it is a wonder they managed to survive that long
6. No Connery
7. No General Katana (love the name!) or Clancy Brown
8. Greater focus on Duncan, tired-looking Connor
'Endgame' didn't suck as hard because of:
1. Christopher Lambert
2. Lisa Barbuscia was pleasing to the eye
3. Kell was kinda interesting, and his backstory
4. Duncan taking Connor's head so he could face Kell
Why the low rating? It is a poor movie, but still watchable.
I enjoyed Endgame, it was a respectable feature-length final episode of the Tv series to give Duncan his props. My only complaint is they killed Connor, WTF? So many other better, less tragic ways to pass the torch. Having Duncan actually kill him was pretty damned heavy handed of them. All in all though, i give it a 7 out of 10.
