why all the hatred

Just curious why everyone hates this movie so much.

People hate it because it's a sequel to a classic, I really think that's the only reason. I mean, sure it has flaws but I don't think people would pick apart those flaws so much if they were in a film that wasn't connected to a classic.

I really like this one and I've always thought people were too harsh on it.

I really don't see why people don't feel the original film tries to make us cheer on the massacre at the prom as well. no matter how well the film is presented, the prom scene gets that reaction from almost everyone I know who has seen it both past and present. and I'm sure during its run in 1976, moviegoers had the same reaction even though bullying wasn't so much in the media as an epidemic the way it is now. I'm not saying it's right but can't say I felt sorry for anyone in that scene, other than the gym teacher. the sequel goes down the same route. it may be an inferior film but same rules apply in my book.

I like it. No guilt about it. Is it as good as the classic? No but it's good for what it was. Keep in mind the classic also has it's fair share of flaws as well.

It's funny, the movie wasn't an overwhelming smash hit like the original, but it did do respectable business at the box office, it lingered on top 20 rental lists for months after it was released on video, it received frequent TV airings for a handful of years and even got a few good reviews from critics (The Village Voice hailed it as one of the best films of the year and The San Francisco Chronicle declared it better than the original). Looking at its imbd page 15 years later, one would think that "Carrie 2" was a resounding failure. It certainly wasn't.

As stated above, the reason for the hate is that it was spawned from a film that is a classic -- 1976's Carrie is the movie that brought Stephen King to the attention of the world, it launched (and re-launched) the careers of several stars, it instantly found its way into pop-culture and inspired an onslaught of imitations and blatant rip-offs. The fact that MGM had the audacity to make a barely-related sequel 23 years later pissed off a lot of fans... just as the pair of remakes have more recently.

Judging it on its own merits, this is a damned good little movie -- matter of fact, in a lot of ways it holds up better than the original. The characterizations aren't as cartoonish, the fashions and music aren't as dated, and the videotape foreshadowed cyber-bullying (which was used in almost exactly the same way in the 2013 remake). Don't get me wrong, I love the original film so much that I've become something of an expert on it -- but as such, I know it's highly flawed, so I have no beef with the sequel and remakes. I've said repeatedly over the years that if they'd released this movie as "The Rage" and cut all of the overt ties to Carrie White, it probably would've become a classic in its own rite. It's certainly better than "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Urban Legend" and the barrage of '90s horror flicks which tried to emulate "Scream."

I like this movie but I do notice some problems the film has...

the film seems to lose direction... are they doing the continuation of CARRIE or are they doing a moment of truth movie with the game the guys were playing when the police found out?

also... the entire thing happened within a week... she goes to not even knowing him really until MONDAY NIGHT to screwing him on THURSDAY NIGHT!!! I lost some respect for her when that happened.

OH THANK YOU GOD! THANK YOU SO BLOODY MUCH!!! Basil Fawlty
