What is the point of killing Elektra King?

That is stupid. He killed Elektra King and then have to race against time to stop Renard. Upon learning of Elektra’s death, there is no way Renard will stop. So, the best way is to hold Elektra hostage. Renard will do anything when Elektra is in danger.

True but Elektra was evil and twisted and murdered her own father. She deserved an even more vile death.

Considering Renard was going to go down with the sub, her death may have prevented him from executing the attack, giving him a chance to live out his dying life, since he was going to die for her - he couldn't express his love in the traditional fashion, so it was a last gesture of love. Bond needed to chase after Renard to stop him from causing an 'instant - catastrophic - meltdown' in Istanbul; simply telling him he had Elektra hostage wouldn't have stopped him. Given that Bond needed to take chase, Bond also killed Elektra to protect M.

Maybe he killed her because she had tried to kill him.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

I remember in press reports and interviews at the time that the producers felt that Bond should deal with Elektra the sane way he would deal with a male villain. They did toy with an alternate ending by having her live and be confined to an asylum, but in the end they felt that she should not get different treatment than other villains.

Heh, I didn't know that. Makes sense though.

May as well visit the forums in my signature to discuss Bond since IMDB boards are closing down. Though it is more adult orientated, so thick skinned people advised only. They don't ban people for petty reasons like other Bond forums.

She was despicable and deserved worse. On a side note, I thought it was very poignant how they showed M walking in and seeing James "at work". I feel she would forever look at him differently.
