Why did tony make a hit on Massarone after he commented about his weight

by going by that.....how did he know that he was a 'rat'?

reply

Huh? You're gonna have to give us a bit more than that.
Are you talking about Big Pussy?

Jack Massarone the informant in the episode 'The Rat Pack' se5 ep2

Jack made the remarks to tony about losing weight outside a gas station..

Tony informs his crew he couldn't tell if Massarone was an informant. A few moments later, Tony remarks about how Massarone had mentioned that Tony had lost weight, which the rest of the crew seem (quietly) skeptical about. (source wiki)

He then kills off Jack.....

It looks more of a hunch without the backing of any credibly or substantial evidence

Tony was already suspicious then Patsy Parisi told him the FBI had staked out one of his meetings with Massarone. He was pretty sure he himself hadn't been followed. Then, Tony B commented how fat Tony was getting (and earned a trip outside for a little schooling) and when Massarone complimented him for losing weight he knew he was being buttered up.

I agree about this. He was flattering him to deceive.

Tony was already suspicious. But other things helped confirm it for him.

Patsy telling him about the FBI.
Jack asking to many questions, especially about specific people and places.
Also Jack always wearing the same ugly hat.
Then finally the weight comment. Jack asking if he lost weight, when it was clearly visible that he hadn't, and then the bathroom scale confirmed it not to be true. Jack was trying way to hard to butter Tony up.
