Really bad movie

I'm sorry, but this is a really bad movie. Some people think George Clooney has a flair for comedy, but I don't agree. He over-acts and is just annoying. I know we are supposed to love everything the Cohen brothers direct because they are so hip and cool and speak for their generation, but the movie is disjointed and shallow. I know the characters are supposed to be shallow, but the directors' disinterest in the movie is apparent.

Back to Clooney: if this were the first movie I ever saw him in, I wouldn't bother to see any other movies he made.

I don't why you feel the need to apologize for telling the truth. This movie had a few good moments but it was mostly a crap fest from beginning to end, definitely a weaker Cohen effort.

I must be very rare in tastes, but this one and "Burn After Reading" are the 2 Coens' screwball comedies in which I laughed the most. "The Big Lebowsky" was OK (I tought it would have been funnier... maybe my expectations were high), but I didn't like "Fargo" at all... and "Ladykillers" was terrible.

Maybe movies like this are made for people like me (with the tastes twisted). This is a 6/10 to me (but it needs a re-watch ).

I've never seen George Clooney funnier than here. And... when the hitman mistakes in the darknes his asthma apparatus with his gun and kills himself was the funniest shock I've experienced in a cinema . I laughed a lot like I never did!!!!... but I must admit I was one the few. And what about the creepy counselor/former boss of Miles? that's an hilarious classic of the Coen's films!!! And the fantastic situations in court are also worth watching; and also the moment when Miles decides to not kill his wife and tries by the phone to avert CZJ's character to encounter the hitman... and the list goes on and on).

100% agree. I didn't understand it 'til I edited the synopsis, and it was still *chaloshus*.

I think that this was the BEST comedy film by the Brothers Coen, and the clever elements( the prenup tagline, references to Marvin Mitchelson, and even Wheezy) can't be matched by anyone in our times.

The set-up via Geoffrey Rush was a classic in itself, could have been a 5 minute short movie!

George Clooney's narcissim was spot-on, and the ice-cold/sultry CZ Jones had ME wanting her.

Billy Bob Thornton playing the Doyle heir-Dummied down QB hero and the other roles he played was a riot!

The Choo-choo train skits, pretty girls in undies, Cedric the detective, the rented poodle, everything fit PERFECTLY in this comedy.

I watch this movie at least twice a year, just to relax and laugh.

Long live the Coen Brothers!!!

Interesting. I don't keep up with actors, and just yesterday I saw The Descendants, not even aware that George Clooney played the lead. Liked it much better.

Really, really bad. I gave it a "5". I would never have believed this was a Coen Bros. film. What were they thinking? The story was totally predictable and formulaic. I only kept watching it because the actors were trying so hard to do the best they could with it. I admire G. Clooney and Z. Jones a lot, and they were enjoyable to watch together, and she looked sensational in those outfits. BUT the story line and script were SO LAME, in my opinion. I see some people think it is hilarious. When I think of how far outside the box the Coens usually operate, I don't understand why they would do something so tritely Hollywood. I was so bored by it I kept switching over to other channels. But the magic of Clooney and Jones kept drawing me back, in spite of the stupid story line.

I think that's part of the joke.

you're being too generous. this was horrible. it's hard to believe that the same guys that made o brother and lebowski, made this. what an embarassment..

This film...what a throw away, of the girls were naked it wouldnt save it

It is endless and goes around and around for no particular reason. I like Clooney--though he is a limited actor--and Zeta Jones is great to look at. But the charms of these stars do not a movie make. It's pretty terrible, and I have a high tolerance for bad films.

A truly godawful film. Horrendous just as bad as an Ben Stiller film only even worse because it has Coen bros name on it and a Ben Stiller sh!te doesn't.

I agree totally. Because if those no talent Coen bruhs think they know the first thing about making quality films, I will immediately direct them to the filmmaker of the century, a guy named csnedeker.
