So did Hector bust Thibodeaux out of the bureau or what?

At the end, Hector says "I dont know what happened here but I'm going to make sure you get busted out of the bureau!"

Thib looks at him with a weird look and gives him a captain's salute. I thought the salute part was funny but it also made me think that Thib was not a real FBI agent just based on the way he reacted like he didnt give a damn.

I just can't imagine some former agent (who likely left for nefarious reasons as he didn't seem old enough for a proper retirement into the civilian workforce) having the contacts to bust a man who...

Recovered 7 Billion dollars of known stolen funds, a 40 million dollar mask with greater cultural value than dollars, A Rembrandt, gathered the proof necessary that when the lady is caught again she will be convicted, was limited to the use of foreign government and private security workers without his own resources.

Two optional items. That may have been the gun that Mac took from her early on in the hotel room and that was Hector's gun, that's going to go over real well. Part of me wonders if Thibideux took the chip's for the US government rather than himself. If that is the case then they employed a renowned thief to lure in another thief and get their hands on emerging technology from a friendly government, that employee who followed through is not going anywhere.

It makes no sense to me, if anything Will Patton (Hector) being fired and blackballed upon his return to the states makes more. The best thief in the world spent years developing software for the biggest score ever on his watch while stealing various items the company insured throughout that time. Same guy pays an arm and a leg of company money flying her, himself and other company personnel across the globe with no results in the end. He assaulted a working FBI agent in Kuala Lumpur. All evidence points to him being grossly negligent and deserving of being *beep* canned.

Well, there are many different possibilities.

1) FBI is pretty powerful, it can do pretty much anything it wants. Someone that has been long working there, knows how to use the corruption of that alphabet gang to their advantage, to mold anyone's life in any way they damn well please. This means trouble for Hector, who is probably going to go to prison for some trumped-up charges or maybe he is going to mysteriously 'disappear', or framed for murder or drugs or or or or..

..let's just say an FBI agent is in a more powerful position than some insurance guy with a silly moustache.

2) Why would Thib.. hm.. I am not even going to try to spell that. Why would the FBI agent guy care? He got his WEALTH, he can do whatever he wants, he doesn't have to hold on to some crummy agent desktop johnny job. He is FREE, he can buy a villa in south France and live as a lord for the rest of his days in luxury and gravy train.

3) I actually had something here, but forgot. Such is life.
