saw this last night for 1st time in about a decade

bought the vhs back in the day (2000) and watched it a good few times in that 00s era and was fascinated, the look of the 50s, the locations, the Hitchcock-esque score, all the great performances Damon as like a sort of a effeminate Hannibal Lecter (rewatching it now it seems Scott's Hannibal the following year was influenced by this film a couple of shots were very similar and even the score), and especially Jude Law. everyone went on to such big movie careers when they were all pretty much starting out here (except Damon/Paltrow who'd already had big movies before) and all 4 leads went on to appear in MCU. Also remember finding out years later about the unconnected sequels like Ripley's Game etc.. Makes me wonder why Damon didn't continued with the Ripley franchise like Bourne (maybe a Damon starring sequel could still happen?)

Anyway one thing in particular I don't think id hit on before was how similar it was to Superman IV specifically the part where Clark/SM is on the double date with Lois and Lacy.. Only it was for most of the movie. Doubt it was in anyway intentional as it based on a book but maybe it was abit..there was even the Superman reference when Law tries on Toms glasses (Law very nearly played Superman opposite Colin Farrels Batman in the aborted 2004 Wolfgang Petersen Batman v Superman which would've been one of those weird movie coincidences where theres a reference to a franchise or character an actor would later go on to portray like Peter Capaldi playing a WHO Doctor in WWZ )
