hi all if, anyone remember this show then they may remember the token white, the little street punk who was there to add a bit of pale face colour well the token white is malcolm reed in enterprize, well done mate.
there to add a bit of pale face colour just in case the durector was ever accused of racism, since you naver saw a white person on the cosby show or fresh prince i see these shows as racist towards whites.
Not to be funny but why are you saying this show is racist? just because of a lack of white people represented in it?That is the reality, how many white people do you know hang out in a black peoples barbers?i can assure you not many unless they are friends and stuff. if you think about it in real life you will not find many white people going into a black peoples barbers to get their hair cut or hang out, that is a rare ting especially in Peckham(where the Desmonds was shot) and im sure that would be the same if the roles were reveresed. if the show was in reverse you would find that there would not be many black people represented(if any),anywho dont get me started on the amount of shows and movies that purposfully miss represent or miss out involving black people. Now THAT is racist!

How exactly? can you do some examples please? if i remember correctly (which i do) in one Fresh prince episode they mis judged the ex con(who was white) and in the end of that episode he was shown to be the good guy.so what are you talking about? beside some of those representations are based on true life, they can only go on what they know.Fresh prince raised some good profound issues about race in their episodes, and some good lessons could be learned from them.
plus dont even let me get into the amount of films TV programmes and stuff that discriminate and poorly reperesent balck people because it will go on and ON!
I think Desmonds was better than the Cosby show as there would be lots of black people in a black barbers . The Cosby never seemed to know any white people and also the family was to nice to each other. The family in Desmonds fell out with each other and also the actors did actually look related X
You are right about Desmonds being better then Cosby. This was a class act, and funny. There was never any nastyness. Like it was said, the show was soppose to be in Peckham where most was black. And just how many non black people you know that goes into a black barbars? I am suprise that anyone would even bring race into a good show like this. It had nothing to do with that.
I have seen white people go into black barber shops many times, are things that bad in Peckham still? Or are we just talking about when the show was made?
I live just around the corner from where Desmonds barbers was located, though it was only a hop front, it was filmed in a studio, with occasional location work...including in a church right next door to me, requiring them to erect lights in my garden.
And yes Peckham did and still does have a large black population, though its becoming more mixed and more desirable.
And indeed there are still a lot of barbers frequented by black people, as well as lots of nail bars/salons.
