Haha, yeah, I watched this last night, two girls, one being my girlfriend, and they both thought he was gay, b/c of they way he was acting in the begining.

reply

gay as in happy i'm sure

Val doesn't smile too much. I know a blind person who has never seen and Val really did a great job.

This movie is the best movie I've ever seen, ever ever ever ever

I love it from the bottom of my heart and soul.

Jesus... take it easy.

'What difference you think you can make, one man in all this madness?"

reply

really?...better than, say...The Godfather?...Jaws?...Ernest Goes To Camp?

reply

Yeah, he over-did the smiling- at least when he was blind before he got his sight, then he didn't smile so much.

i found val kilmer's acting really moving in this movie. and mira sorvino's, too. there was something so delicate and childlike about both of them. loved this movie.

reply

I think he smiled just the right amount of times. He did a fantastic job in this film, which could not have been easy. I actually thought that his smiling added to his performance.

reply

Fantastic movie, awesome actor :)

reply

I thought he was brilliant, theres a good reason why he stopped smiling when he could see, pretty much what the main part of the movie is about. His life became far more complicated when he could see. Like what he said in the strip club... he did a fair amount of smiling then though.

He's a very talented actor and this movie really showed that.

Val can smile all he wants--not only is he a superb
actor, but my hearthrob as well! :-)

reply

nah, i think it just shows his character better, and like sum1 sed, he smiles less when he can see, but i think that maybe that shows how he becomes slightly more unhappy or atleast concerned of his surroundings, wheras when he was blind before he moved to new york he couldnt be happier. i think that maybe it was a hidden story that you have to figure out for yourself, or just a good coincidence ^_^

reply

The reason why Val Kilmer smiled a lot is because blind ppl cannot read facial expressions and therefore cant react to other ppl by mimicking and so their expressions are sometimes 'fixed'.
I have worked with blind ppl a lot and he did a 100% faithful likeness of a blind person!

reply

you're so right! and also...if anyone noticed, virgil acts a lot like ray charles in the movie Ray...like the smiling, and the way he kinda held himself...this was a WONDERFUL MOVIE!! omg...it was so sweet.

reply

if you watch and study the facial expressions of blind people, you will see that they DO smile "too" much, or more than sighted people. look at ray charles, or stevie wonder. val kilmer did studying for this role and he did a great job at portraying a blind person.
