WHAT???

25/100 on Metascore?!?!? REALLY??????

I just now finished watching this movie on AMC (I had it recorded on DVR) and it was absolutely amazing! I look at it as almost a perfect film. The acting was spot-on by everyone. Robin Williams, as usual, was perfect. Gunton playing the dean made him a character you'd love to hate.

So, out of curiosity, I come to IMDB just to see what everyone else thought of this incredibly moving film, only to find out that it has a 25 out of 100 rating on Metascore and a 6.3 rating by users.

Do you people not know a good movie when you see it?

This is definitely one of the most underrated movies of all time. I would easily give this movie a very well-deserved 9.5/10. I just don't get why it has such a low rating. I've seen crappy sequels to horror movies and ridiculous Adam Sandler movies that have gotten higher ratings than this movie.

Fix it, IMDB! Learn to enjoy a movie!

this movie completely contradicts itself and makes a mockery of Hunter Adams biography. What is in to like?

Additionally, the REAL Patch Adams (who appeared in the 1999 Universal home video after the movie itself ends, and in Doug the Nostalgia Critic's video in stock footage) DOES NOT LOOK LIKE ROBIN WILLIAMS AT ALL!:)

You want to know about real Patch Adams, avoid this movie.

"You want to know about real Patch Adams, avoid this movie."

Look, bright eyes, no one denied what you are saying. But I think that, apologies to the real Hunter Adams, The Nostalgia Critic/Douglas Walker,
the later Roger Ebert,et al. that this is an excellent film , just that
(think, for instance recent examples "Lee Daniels's The Butler","We Bought
A Zoo",etc. that it is INSPIRED by true events.

Or, sunshine, in the words of the long late Jack Webb, who died in 1982 but if alive today would forward THIS:"Events and Names were changed to protect the innocent."

Case closed.

Sandra Bullock is America's Sweetheart and that's that.

I'm sorry that the real Patch Adams doesn't like the film, but 51,000+ members rate it a perfect 10. You can't show every facet of his activism in two hours, so the focus was on his use of humor. Perhaps it would have been better to have changed the last name of the movie character so that it is clear that there was some dramatic license. The end credits could have stated it was inspired by the life of Hunter "Patch" Adams, M.D.

The only part I really didn't like was the ending. That graduation stunt would have gotten the Williams character hauled before the State Board of Medical Examiners, who would have questioned his mental stability. At times it seemed that Williams was playing a rebel without a cause.

Hmmmmm ya might wanna check your maths just over 5000 gave it 10 stars out of 55000 ratings! For the record I thought it was predictable, overly sentimental and suffered from a lead performance from Robin Williams playing Robin Williams rather than Patch Adams. Same old tired scthick he's been doing for years!

I'll drink to that.

Putting aside the fact that the film completely ignores Hunter Adams, his work, and his life in the worst way possible, the movie version of Patch Adams is a despicable person.

He's completely unprofessional, ignores the opinions of anyone who doesn't share his bullsh*t views, and doesn't act in any way like a doctor should. A doctor treats the sick. He doesn't burst into a room of sleeping patients in the middle of the night and start chucking balloon animals around and then popping them.

But the trifecta of awfulness is this:

1. He starts practicing medicine without a licence or even complete training. And his free hospital doesn't have any kind of firm infrastructure like background checking patients for mental instability or criminal convictions.

2. When his illegal and frankly unsafe 'hospital' runs out of supplies, he starts stealing from a real hospital.

3. His lack of background checks on patients leads to him and his friends treating a psychotic who murders one of the medical students and then kills himself. Patch is responsible for a murder-suicide.
