this movie is underrated...

i don't understand why such a beautiful film has a rating of 6. It's ok, i can't say that the film is extremely perfect. but the film script is fine, acting is good, message is nice... but something must be wrong so that most people are not even aware of this film. i hope people watch this film, and share their thoughts.

ps: my english is not wonderful, sorry...

I think that the term "underrated" has been created especially for this movie!! 6/10, I'd never disagreed more on imdb ranking. I just saw it yesterday and it has become one of my favorite movie of all-time. Once again, Hopkins is brilliant, his acting was as good as in Silence of the Lambs. I don't think Cuba was good enough for an actor but Hopkins sure did!

The scene where Hopkins and the gorillas are attacked by humans is by far one of the saddest scene I've seen (along with the Terminator 2 end, eheh). Sutherland is also great. It was only the second time I saw him perform (Sutherland), he seems to have a lot of charisma!

10/10

I totally agree with the OP and the other guys here. It is the most underrated movie. I just saw this movie, it kept me engaging with strong performances from Hopkins and Gooding Jr.

I will give 9/10 just because of the prison scenes which I think are repetitive that you find in so many prison movies.

This movie is underated indeed! Impressive story and dito message. Great acting. The reason why it could be underarated, is many people don't catch the message, altough its brought clearly, in my opinion.

This movie is definitely one of my favorites! 8+

the movie is great an people are stupid ;) the old story:)
this movie is 7-8 an got the best message a movie ever had;)

Well, the critics blasted it. That's the answer. Critics are those who are looking for a certain kind of film, and if they don't get it, they don't know how to open their minds and see the beauty right in front of them. I got into argument after argument with people online shortly after the release of this masterpiece, simply because we have a nation of brainwashed retards who can't think for themselves.

Man you can't be real? Cuba trashes this movie all the way to hell. One of the worst preformances ever - and, no, im not exaggerating. Lines like: "Show me how to live", and the shawshank redemption scene in the last scene of the movie (cuba standing in the rain) and so forth. Its beyond me why any professionals working with this movie would pay for Cuba to act with a first class actor like Hopkins. Stupid stupid stupid. And im being nice right now!

reply

First of all, Cuba didn't have anything to do with the script, and all you did was complain about the script here. Secondly, if you had actually watched the whole movie all the way through (I envision you blasting the movie the whole time instead of actually watching it, evidenced by your ignorance and lack of comprehension), you would have noticed how the rain scenes developed and why. They had absolutely nothing to do with Shawshank, other than both ideas being driven by freedom. However, Shawshank's scene was one scene having to do with a man physically finding freedom from prison, while the scenes in Instinct were a well constructed progression of two people who found mental freedom from the illusion of control that society has instilled in them. You might know that, if you would watch a movie like this with an open-mind, instead of believing brain dead, heartless critics, and if you were emotionally capable of receiving the breathtaking message this movie has to offer.

I agree completly, very underrated and deseves at least an 8... I gave it a 10, I thought the scene about control being an illusion was great.
