I know it's many years later. But just had to reply. I'm 45, Have some health issues. And currently live in the Ocala National Forest in Florida. But myself and my woman are preparing to move to Idaho and live OFF-GRID and live very much like Grey Owl did.. I plan on Building my own Cabin, But I'm cheating a little by using a Sawmill I bought to cut the logs into lumber.ive already cut down over 85 Red Cedar Tree's preparing for the build. I hope to live off the land as much as the "LAWS" allow !!.I've sold my modern Firearms and bought Percussion Black Powder Firearms. I will be using mostly modern Items to live because it's much more efficient. But will be splitting wood for cooking and heat. Using Solar and Generator for Power. And plan on making a living off the land(can't tell my secrets on how). So compared to today's way of modern living. I will be living exactly like Grey Owl !!.I'm hoping this new way of living cures my health issues and teaches me more than a "Schooling" ever did. I can't wait to start this life. I've been working towards it for 13 years so far. And I will be living my dream within the next year !!!. I recommend to anyone, Even if you NEVER get to realize your dream, Plan on it, Work towards it, Invest into it !! And before you know it, You just might be able to do it !!. And if you don't, Maybe someone after you will take what you've invested and continue to dream their self !!!. nd maybe they do whatever you were planning to do in your honor !! And if nothing ever comes of your dreams and plans,,So What !!! Atleast it gave you a reason to live !!!

I've been working towards it for 13 years so far.
You'll be WORKING at it for many more years if ya don't get off your duff and just DO IT. That life is a hard, hard, hard, nonstop, from sunup to sundown life, even with "a Sawmill, Solar a Generator, and using mostly modern Items to live "because it's much more efficient.".
And I will be living my dream within the next year !!!.
I sincerely hope you & your woman realize your dream soon.

Sounds like you've already started. Just don't continue to plan like you have for the "past 13 years or so".

I agree. I was close to living 'this' dream. Once someone told me when I was in my early 20's I shoulda been born in an earlier generation, and I knew exactly what they meant, I planned for this life. Then unforseen circumstances forced us to move within a small town too close to cities & metropolitan areas. We continue to prepare, and it does give one a reason to live, yet my Spirit is saddened, since we're of an age now where we can't thrive in that life. It's as if our bodies have given up, aged because of the disappointment. When I look out of my window now, I don't see freedom.
