Why did Jada Pinkett's character do what she did?

Why did she do what she did, knowing what it would mean for Lewis?

I'd say she did it out of selfishness; she obviously cared about the story and what it would do for her career more than about Lewis, the person that the story was about, and how it would impact him. She can't claim ignorance here either as Beth gave her a number of specific examples from the past as to what happened to poor souls like Lewis when mass media got involved.

On top of that, I have a feeling that she may have let the "power of mass media" go to her head. Perhaps, she may have had several incidents during her career and/or personal life that whenever she didn't get her way, she would publicly shame her opponent(s) and they would pull a 180 and give her what she wanted. What she didn't know is that this sort of thing does not always work and there are entities out there who are not afraid of her big mouth and/or don't care what the outside world thinks and/or says about them. It's just a shame that an innocent person had to pay the price for her careless actions.

She was an asshole who cared more about getting a story than about saving a man's life.
