I know for a fact that is it staged. I use to work for a indepentdent wrestling promotion and a few of the wrestlers we used were paid to work that the Jerry Springer show.

I think half of them are real and half are fake. Heres the back up ring announcer for WWE/ECW and I think the 2 chicks are porn stars in real life...

Fake or not, its still fun to watch. I doubt tonight though, that chick with HIV and Steve being on the show. I think this one is going to be a downer tonight.

Yeah, it was. That's a shame what she did to herself. Also it comes on freakin' late in O'ahu. At 1 am in the morning, it used to be 2am but Maury got moved up to 5pm.

I agree with jjmc, I think the show is about half real and half fake.

Don't worry, Europeans don't naturally assume that "The Jerry Springer Show" and the rest of the bunch are real. I live in Denmark, and these shows are really a laughing stock of the youth here. It looks so phoney and corny in our eyes that, yes, it is fun to watch! Yet there is of course always a small amount of doubt if the episode one is watching is real or not...

Still it's my impression that many Europeans think that Americans generally are more unintelligent and fat. It has something to do with all these horrible American TV shows that we also have. Compared to European shows they are just not good, but it could be that you're keeping the good ones to yourselfes :)

spankees: But what I was wondering is, do Americans generally think that it's real? Is there any doubt in Americans' headsat all???

Okay, so Europeans view of American media/TV shows isn't all that off from what I can understand. My only question left is: are Americans really stupid-er than the the rest of the world? *SS*

(Only joking: I know of course they aren't, and though much American media is incredibly stupidifying, some of the best movies ever have come out of "God's Country" as they/you call it.)

I couldn't agree more. In fact, it's so pathetic that some people watch this load of nonsense anyway.

The bassist in my band was on the show years when she was about 19 or so. It was real there. (The Singer has been on Jenny Jones as well, so there are two examples of the show being real). lol

reply

I think the show is real. I have been to a taping. I bet some of the people make stuff up and get a free trip to Chicago. But, I am sure that they are just good at telling a lie and fool or trick the show. The show is great and I hope it never goes away.

reply

Man that show is so fake! I so happen to live in Chicago and have been to a taping of the show, and all I've got to say is it's FAKE!!! Oh and just because people say it's fake doesn't mean that they're trying to get a free trip to Chicago. You can easily tell on television that the show is obulously phony. Look at Rev. Shor. You can't possibly marry two of the same sex in Chicago, because it's illegal.

reply

I don't think it's totally fake. Wasn't there an incident after one of the shows one of the people got killed by the other? Something like that.

reply

I'd say if the guests are real then the show puts them up to pulling the extreme stuff.

I've had a pain in the a$$ for the past 45 years! You got any chicken soup for that?

reply

"I'd say if the guests are real then the show puts them up to pulling the extreme stuff. "

There's probably alot of truth to that.
I remember about 8 or 9 years ago when people first accused the fighting of being fake Springer IIRC, admitted some was fake but said some was real. A friend of mine who followed the show told me that alot of the guests were goaded by producers or backstage assistants. For example their lover would be confessing their infidelity on stage and some show employee would be standing next to the person backstage, saying, "What do you think of that? Look at that? What does that make you want to do?" etc.
I think the show is mostly fake. The fighting that is real is provoked by the producers I think.

reply

Even if it is real and the show doesn't put them up to it, then people learn by example. I mean if you watched the show over a period of lets say 2 months and see all the fighting , what would you do if the love of your life brought you on to reveal her secret lover?

what about that one where the mothers sleeping with the daughter? thats gotta be fake i mean come on!

reply

I think that was the Jenny Jones Show :)

CokaCoola:

that was the Jenny Jones show where a gay man had a crush on a straight man, told him on national tv and the straight man freaked and killed him sometime after the show.

reply

Don't forget when he married an old man from the audience to 2 women.
I am sure that it might have a small amount of realism but they over act for drama. Like when you have to help friends move and soemthing barely hits your foot but you pretend your in pain. You may feel a little bit of pain but overexaggerate for effect to let your friend know what you are going through to help him or just to get out of it.

reply

Do you think that they got these people from Broadway or Shakespeare in the park. Of course not. Those people are not actors. Every TV show has producers who produce the show. That does not mean that the stories or the people are fake.

reply

I say now that some of it is fake and some of it's not. I was on the show as far as being a guest in the audience, and by all means, as a native of Chicago, it is possibly illegal to marry a gay couple on stage lol.

reply

Well if they move the show to Boston, they can marry gay couples. Of course they would have to live there.

reply

Jerry swears that when these stories are presented to producers they investigate before inviting people on the show. Now if the people who are applying to the show are liars the producers would not know that. I really don't think the show hires actors. They would have been exposed by now.

reply

Thats the one think that makes me think its not actors. I mean one would think that if there were actors they would have been exposed on one of these enteratinment magazines. Besides I still say if its real that much of it is scripted.
Even if it isn't scripted, people learn by example. I mean if you were watching the show on a regular basis and saw all the fighting that goes on. What do you think your reaction would be if the love your life brought you on the show to reveal that they are having an affair with your bestfriend or one of your family members and that person comes on stage, how would you handle it? I'd want to knock them on their rear. If its real, I'd lid to see my brother on there because he is having an affair with a married woman and then have ther husband let my brother have it.

reply

I have a bad feeling it may be real. When I was stationed in San Diego I met some people who made Jerry's guests look like the admin for M.I.T. However you can never tell whether a group of people may have gotten together and scripted a scenario then presented it to Springer as real.

reply

people may say only a couple have been proven to be fake, but as stated earlier, independant pro wrestlers are often paid to be on both springer and maury. so i know for a fact both shows have staged skits, if not all are staged. i had been going to see a local wrestling fed in indiana and one of the wrestlers i saw every month was on springer because his girlfriend cheated on him with a midget, and he hated midgets. the booker of the fed said you get paid $250 a segment, because nate webb (the midget hater) and corporal robinson had both been on springer and maury.

reply

Whether its fake or not we all know plenty of people in real life who live lives just as crazy as the guests on the show

reply

[deleted]

so for like maury theyll do a show with no audience or snything....then do one with one?? do the people that dont know who their babies fathers are aware of the results before hand? lol cuz if they doo their pretty good actors

The Show is 50 percent fake and 50 percent real. Most of the time when Steve hosts the show, its real. But when Jerry hosts, its usually fake.

Yeah it is fake cause my friends neighbor got paid to go on there and my friend and her family watched the epiosode the said it was so funny.

reply

99% of the time, the stories on this show are completely fabricated. In the 1% or so of cases where they're based in reality, events are highly embellished.
A chain of bizarre occurrances concluded with my appearance on this show last December...the episode aired on Tuesday and was entitled "Attack of the Tattooed People", despite the fact that not _every_ guest was tattooed ::gestures to self::.
Guests on the show are asked to sign a lengthy legal contract, and although I read it thoroughly at the time, I don't know what exactly I'm free to say here. Reply with your email address if you're at all interested in further info.

People are messed up and this just goes to show you that a lot of people are messed up. If the fights were real how come no one is hand cuffed and taken away?

reply

Its like 60% real and 40 % fake. My cousin is one of the producers. So I sometimes go with her to the show and alot of the storys are real. Then theres are just some of the stupid ones.

reply

Probably so.

reply

Maybe like SOME of the story lines are real. Like, someone cheating on someone is definetly believable, and some of the other *beep* But, the fighting, repetitive swearing, and outrageous stories are WAY too unbelievable. But, it's just for amusement :)

reply

I think it's pretty fake. It's just so over-the-top.

It's an interesting psychological phenomenon.

I've posted here before but I'll add this:
I was watching Springer a week or two ago. I don't remember the details but this person came on and said they found out their over was cheating on them because they found a videotape. The show then aired part of the videotape.
Usually when they show a clip of a home movie on TV, the home video quality isn't that good. It's almost always grainier or a bit blurry. However, this "home movie" was the same quality as the Springer show I was watching that day. To me,it was obviously fake.
At the risk of sounding like a sucker, I think this show was real at one time. I think when it began it was real. When the show hit it's pop culture/ratings peak around '97 or '98 I think it was a mix of real and fake. The last few years though, I think it's been almost all fake, and I don't think the show tries too hard to hide it.

i do know that a group of canadian actors pulled a stunt on the show similar to punk'd and they acted out the affair stuff perfectly and jerry and the gang were embarrassed

reply

A lot of stories/people on that show are fake. Those that are NOT fake, are largely exaggerated for drama to the extent where that's fake as well.

But who cares? It's an entertaining show! You don't get to see this happening every day. ;)
