Julia's clothing/hair

Am I the only one who's noticed that Julia doesn't look '80s at all? I mean, I don't expect every character to be an '80s cliche but I can't imagine anyone looking like her in 1985. Her look is part '70s and part early '90s, clearly jumping right over the decade the movie takes place in. This bothers me every time I watch this otherwise good movie.

I always thought that was part of her appeal. She doesn't look like any other girl at the time, so it's not like Robbie would be able to find someone else like her... That's just my opinion anyway. I could be wrong...

And like that, POOF! He's gone.

So many people are bypassing your comment!
I totally agree.
Subconsciously I noticed that her style wasn't of the 80s, but Julia was different.

I just saw this last night. I'm very much into details, and I did notice a few things here that were not from 1985. Yes, I agree, Julia's look was not from that time. It seemed kind of grungy/90s to me. Still, the movie was so terrific that this detail didn't count that much.

First, let me say I like this movie a lot and will stop to watch it most times I catch it on cable.

I agree with the OP on this subject. I am showing my age here, but I grew up in the 80's and was in high school in 1985. No female under 25 would have had that hairstyle or dressed like that.

Now, I am not saying that there weren't people who did not follow the fads or trends of the day, but Julia's whole look is off. The hair parted down the middle??? Nobody did that in the 80's. The clothes were off as well, but nowhere near as bad as the hairstyle.

I can't say it ruined any part of the movie for me, but I do notice it every time I watch it.

My mom's style was pretty similar in the 80's (except my mom had huge metal hair) not everyone wore tutus and fingerless gloves.

Actually, I owned a dress quite similar to her white/red polka dot dress. I agree with the previous poster that she was intended to not be cliche...he was looking for someone to grow old with. THAT happens to be my favorite line!

I keep noticing that her hairdo, jewellry and every outfit is completely early to mid 90s... I try hard to find something 80s about her appearance.

Thank you! This has always bugged the hell out of me, it was as if the actress was too good to deign to look as tacky as everyone actually did in 85. Christine Taylor's wardrobe was spot on, though. I remember girls who looked like "Borderline" Madonna every day,

Yeah, I kept noticing this as well. Her hair and clothing is not from the time period. Kinda ruins it a bit.
