a better film adaptation of a Shakespeare play than Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet?

This is, I can say with all honesty, the only movie I have ever turned off because of how terrible it was. And it's OK to say this I believe, because I have seen Titus Andronicus as a stage production, and this was just a poor execution.

That is easy because I consider Romeo + Juliet a very poor Shakespeare adaptation. It is fun and enjoyable as a movie but just not a very good adaptation of the play. Zeffirelli's adaptation is my favorite movie-version.

And Titus works really well both as a film and as a telling of the original play. As a film it is even very underrated imho. Would have loved to have seen Taymor's stage adaptation.

I watched 20 minutes of this diatribe. its a classic example of a director trying way way way way way too hard to be different and thinks "different means good"
