An average (5) movie 'til the ending..

I had to ultimately knock it to a 4.

How many times has the airport ending been used?

The person leaving gets on the plane, but shows signs of being unsure. The person staying jumps up, out of no where, deciding they must get to the airport before the flight leaves. When they get there, the person asks someone where the plane is. The bystander either points it out or gives him the terminal number. Then the person realizes they are too late. Just as they begin to lose hope, looking at the ground, walking away, the person from the flight shows up, to the [sarcasm] suprise [/sarcasm] of us all.

The whole pirate thing didn't help this film itself. The World War II era fighter, in the tree, had me rolling my eyes at the super convenience of it all.

Oh well. I saw lots of breast, so it's okay..?

I highly doubt you could strap 50 year old pontoons to a plane rigged with normal landing gear using vine and get it to hold up to launch speed on water. But what was even less believable was the love story. Can't decide if Ford and Heche had little chemistry and absolutely none.

What say there, Fuzzy Britches? Feel like talking?

I thought the last act improved the film dramatically. It left behind the farcical air to reveal deep feelings between Quinn & Robin, along with the challenges of reality -- he's a small plane pilot living in the pacific while she's a magazine editor in New York City, how could a committed relationship possibly work?

I've seen way worse coincidences in film & fiction. Have you ever read Edgar Rice Burroughs, for instance? (And, let's face it, this is basically a Burroughs adventure with a romcom element). After all, isn't a Pacific island a natural place for a WW2 fighting plane to be found?

As for jescci's argument:

It was good enough for take off. When Robin eventually lands the plane back in civilization one of the pontoons breaks off. Besides, Quinn had a proven history of successfully jerry-rigging thingamajigs.
