Anybody else unapologetically like this movie?

I rewatched it last week and found that it's aged remarkably well, considering that it has long been criticized as a Cruise vanity project. The fact is, nobody makes action movies like this anymore - give me Tom Cruise over Sam Worthington any day. John Woo has style to spare. The 'sports car love scene' may be ridiculous on a certain level but it's flawless from a technical standpoint.

I really enjoyed the well executed action sequences; to my eyes Cruise and Thanide Newton had decent chemistry; and Lord knows that Woo filmed Newton as flatteringly as humanly possible. I also enjoyed the way Dougray Scott's character was set up as a dark double of Ethan Hunt.

I liked it, and as an action movie it does his job. It's as an MI movie that it fails; too much emphasis is put on the Ethan Hunt character, almost as if it were a Bond movie. MI is supposed to be about the team, not one character and a couple sidekicks. MI4 worked better for me because we get to see other members of the team get screentime.

I disliked it the first time I saw it; that was years ago. I recently gave this sucker an another watch and to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's neither memorable nor great in terms of story and plot (or great direction of the first), but it really works as an action movie; just pure entertainment to be honest.

I'd liked to add though, the sports cars scene - and the later more intense actions sequences, were ridiculous in contrast to anything from the first film... they had such a noticeably different feel and tone, I felt like I was watching a Mission Impossible movie that was set in another universe entirely to that of the first film. Nevertheless, they were incredibly well executed and very stylish in their own right.

In conclusion, Mission: Impossible 2 is not the suspenseful, more complex and thrilling spy film the original was, but it's a good stand alone action flick. And I agree, it impressively aged well.

Definitely. Taken for what it is, a piece of entertainment, I think it's great. So what if it's full of plot holes and kinda stupid... So is Commando, and that's one of my all-time favourites. If I want solid plot and riveting intelligence I'll watch The Shawshank Redemption.

The shootout in the Biocyte building in M:I-2 is one of Woo's best in my opinion, and the crazy chase at the end is awesome too. I just with they'd pull their thumb out and release the director's cut.

John Woo is one of my favorite directors and this is my favorite M:I because of him. I love all of the M:I movies, but this one has all of Woo's hallmarks and I love it for that. I still feel like American audiences just don't get his style, even though every other action director when this came out was trying to do it themselves.

or mission impossible 1.

this was a ridiculous cheesy stupid and dumbed down cruise vehicle. commando was at the begging of the high concept action movie craze, it had carisma and didnt take itself too seriously. the complete opposite to this.

Nail on the head right there.

Now it's poor, chop chop editing with shaky handheld camerawork. John Woo knows visual grace. Stylistic slow motion can be a godsend for action scenes, but you almost never see it anymore. Not to mention the complete lack of gun fu over the last decade.

I can promise you a day of reckoning that you will not live long enough to never forget.

Maybe we need a petition to bring a new Kurt Wimmer movie to life??

I think it's great artistic action movie! Don't see the problem, except some scenes are over the top. Still not nearly as over the top as some Bond movies.

It was one of my favorite action films back in high-school days. Still is! So much fun! I think Zimmer's OST plays a significant part in my favoritism.

I absolutely love this movie. I was amazed on how much hate it had attracted on IMDB. I'm not sure what everyone was expecting, but I was looking for a good summer action packed movie and that's what I got. Hans Zimmer's soundtrack was a huge bonus.

Yes. I really enjoyed MI2. In fact, I still think Mission Impossible and MI2 are best in this franchise. The first film was the great thinker piece. MI2 was the great thrill ride.

As far as I'm concerned, MI3 was the retarded cousin no one wants around and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was the spawn of that cousin.
