WTF is with this damn low rating!?

Personally I think this is a 6.5 rated movie atleast, Eddie Murphy is great in this role. This is a good movie and it has everything a good movie need. What's wrong with you people? What more do you want out of this movie?

I think people have pre-conceived notions about the movie being funny and when it wasn't funny but dramtic they didn't like it. This movie should have played it straight all the way and it would have been wonderful. The dramatic side of it is very good, but the comedy just wasn't funny and was pretty non-existant all together.

It's called "suspension of disbelief". I don't think that a wackjob like "G" could get a 2:30 AM show on public access, let alone a job as the head pitchman on a TV shopping network.

"the movie was buried in the press because it was a threat to greed, consumer culture and corporate america"

I couldn't agree more with you. Not Oscar worthy film imo, but a solid film that is good is all departments. The message it sends across are very good

This was a film that did exactly what I want films to do. It is a form of escapism, without trying to sound too pretentious. I did enjoy this film and I would agree that it is oscar worthy and this is especially so when compared to films that receive praise from critics who (although its their job) just critise everything. A perfect example is the Shawshank Redemption which is consistantly thought of as one of the best films around and yet when first released it was hounded by the critics. I have found that with Holy Man that it was such a breath of fresh air and gets better every time i watch it and although the jokes are not the funniest i've heard, the deeper, more dramatic sides of the film were what made it oscar worthy.

Agreed this movie came out just before fight club did the year after. Both movies dealing with consumerism. I think a lot of people didn't like it because it was fairly generic in it's telling and with the charachters but that's just typical critics who went to way too much school to enjoy anything. I thought the message in the movie was fresh and loved all the charachters. I give it at least an 8 out of ten.

i just watched about a half hour of this movie purely because jeff goldblum as a person has become an inside joke of sorts with my friends after one of them made some ridiculous poem mentioning him randomly in it.............

long story short, i was oddly surprised (i started watching the movie on something like shotime or the like right as G started going on the air and stopped right about when robert loggia told jeff goldblum that he needs to get G his own tv show....not because i didnt like the movie, but because my internet started working and i wanted to get on IMDb haha) both at how almost refreshing and entertaining this movie seemed to be....and at that low ass rating it got. maybe i missed a *beep* beginning or a *beep* end by just watching the middle or even because i came in with no expectations at all but to see jeff goldblum in action, but from what i saw this was a really good movie. bare minimum 6.5 - 7...and thats taking into account that i only saw part of it. what i personally watched was an 8.5 - 9.....so yes, i agree totally. what the hell is the 4 point rating??

I watched this film totally by accident today with intense curiosity and found myself laughing and crying at the same time. Yes some parts are shallow but there was much more than that to this film.

Peace.

Its ridiculously boring and doesn't interest me at all. Niche movie maybe as it seems to have some vocal fans.

What is with you Eddie Murphy suck up's?? This movie was awful. Unfunny. Stereotypical comedy with unfunny results. This movie deserves No Oscars.

You can even see the line on Murphy's bald cap. This film is a 2 or 3 star out of 10.

Eddie Murphy can be ridiculously funny and entertaining, and absolutely fun to watch.

Too bad he's not ANY of that in this movie.

I think this movie has low rating because it's a shítty movie, a bad rip-off of a much better movie, a 'vehicle for Murphy' - a comedian, whose repetitive schtick had lost its novelty a long time ago.

A bad movie = low rating.

Makes sense to me.

Murphy is a really fun and funny comedian with powerful screen presence, and he deserves to be rich and famous, but this movie proves that he can also be pretty gosh-darned AWFUL, unfunny and his stuff can look TIRED and awfully obsolete to look at.

It's like.."we've seen all this before, why are you still doing this and nothing new?"

It's not the worst movie I have ever seen, and the trash I have seen during the last couple of years is SO horrendous, I had to reinvent my whole scale just to do justice to the level of crap that now I know exists, so this movie is not that bad - but the problem is, it's not that GOOD, either.

It's a bit too vague, a bit too plodding, a bit too predictable, and a bit too 'mysterious' for its own good, while being too boring to be this 'mysterious'.

I won't believe for a second that someone like Murphy can be 'God'. Morgan Freeman, sure (though why does God always have to be BLACK? WHy can't he just be 'universal', as in no-gender, no-race 'everything' with no discernable shape, and definitely not some bipedal form-imprisoned entity!)
