exceedingly better than the 2015 remake

Everything about this movie is a million times better than the 2015 shallow remake. Drew was the perfect Danielle. I loved this version more than the remake which was just a carbon copy of the 1950s animation.

The 2015 Cinderella was not a carbon copy of the 1950 film. Also, Ever After was a historical retelling of Cinderella, while the 2015 film was meant to be a traditional adaptation of the tale. Very different movies.

They're both about Cinderella at the end of the day. The remake wasn't quality filmmaking nor is it classic like the 1950 version.

reply

It's going to be a classic for the newer generation, sadly. I'm making my daughters watch The Slipper and The Rose, as well as this and the 1950's version long before I let them see the 2015 one

It kinda was. I mean, sure, they tweak a few things, but

This film presents a Cinderella who is defined by her intelligence, drive and compassion rather than her blonde, cookie-cutter good-looks, which means it automatically wins over both the 2015 version and the 1950 Disney animated movie.

Well said.

George Lucas talking about: 'Hey, give it to me, I'll fix it. I'll make 20 more of them'

reply

Seriously. I don't put much stock in the IMDb ratings, but I can't imagine how the 2015 version scored higher than Ever After.

reply

Because kids will watch anything these days and parents let them. There's nothing impressive about the new remake. It's a CGI music video.

reply

It's a movie aimed towards kids and kids watch it?! Back in the good old days parents would have none of that.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Two different films. Two different stories.

We write the story...

Cinderella is too sweet and luscious in its visual looks and performances which makes it a cuter film for little kids whereas Ever After really immerses me in its realistic locations in France, its perfect rendition of 16th century architecture and costumes, its layered performances, and its witty spellbinding screenplay. The Disney cartoon remains the best but Ever After stands next to it as one of the best retellings or adaptations.

The main difference is with the remake it's closer to the animated movie, six, as a fairy tale, demands one suspends disbelief. While Ever After treats the story as a real-life happening, something that happened and as such is a more realistic, thoughtful, intelligent rendering. Our "Cinderella" here isn't a helpless female, even though thrust into a helpless situation. She's feisty, smart, and resourceful. Even in a fairy tale setting, she would NOT have needed any talking animals or a fairy godmother to help her out. My two favorite scenes were when the prince went to save Danielle, only to find out she'd already rescued herself, and in quite a badass manner. Then the final words of the movie: And the point is, gentlemen, is that they lived. Gives me a shiver every time. The only complaint I had about the movie was Drew's horrible attempts at an English accent, though I've heard much worse than that on film.
