The cross dressing guy who sings

What was his trip? Being a Star Trek fan is one thing, but cross dressing and being a ST fan is another!

Yeah, what was that about? crossdressing as a dead astronaut in order to celebrate his fandom??? -I mean, as a trekkie I thought I'd seen it all, but THAT guy... WOW, just WOW!

Not that I mind the least, IDIC an' all, but that guy had a seriously strange way of dealing with reality.

Or am I missing something?

That is the only guy that really worried me in the movie. The rest of them were just having fun!

He was originally dressed as the astronaut from The Royale. Then he "character developed it" and now dresses as the astronaut's wife; a woman whose husband never returned, and never understood where he was and what happened to him.

Here is why it worries me:

Star Trek, especially Next Generation for me, shows us a world of equality and easy respect. If you are a person on which others dump hostility and condescension, a world where you would be treated kindly regardless of your idiosyncrasies would look like shangri-la. Unfortunately, that place doesn't exist. We are shown the promised land, and made bereft of it in one fail swoop. So he expresses that bereavement by dressing as the woman who was left widowed, in what was relatively close to our time, here on earth. Of course, the Trekkies movie makers compounded the problem, by featuring him on closeup forgetting the words to his folk song. This is all just my guess of course, but dang! Poor Guy!

The one guy I loved the most is the one they didn't show in the film: the guy who was sending in brochures and postcards every day. Now, this is a man who took the adventurous spirit of Star Trek to heart! We tune in to Star Trek, and they tell us where they go, what they do, and what they eat. So here is a man who starts his own travels here on our own planet in our own time, and he sends back pamphlets on where he has been, what he did there, and they kinds of things he ate while he was there. What a riot! And I gotta tell you, for me, that makes a lot more sense than pretending that you have duties and a life on a make believe starship, I don't care how many other people join your chat group! If you are not actually DOING anything, what is the point?

Loved this movie!

Thanks talamasca! I love your viewpoint on the fan sending in the travel stuff. I'd never thought of it in that sense; the traveling aspect. I know, duh?
