just watched it

I am still processing what I just watched. I know I am supposed to love Canadian made movies. They even had The Tragically Hip music.

Not sure what you mean by 'tragically hip music' but I absolutely adore this film. One of 1997's best.

A credit to the Canadian film industry featuring superb work from Sarah Polley and one of my all-time favourite actors, Ian Holm.

Oh. LOL!

I thought you were being rude.

Anyway, even without knowing who did the music, I love the film.

reply

I watched it when it came out. I still don't know what I think of it. I mostly watched it because of Sarah Polley.

One of those movies where I wonder if I missed something. My wife loved it as I knew she would.

reply

Maybe I should give it another go. Like you I felt like I was missing something with the story. I remember thinking it was a good movie, but it was like nothing mattered. It's been a long time since I've seen it.

Your wife has good taste. You're a lucky man.

It took us 22 years to see it. It is officially off the watchlist.

It's a classic about bereavement, loss, guilt, and the ability to grieve.

I find the Ian Holm character fascinating because he's clearly trying to use the tragic school bus case as a means of finding closure with respect to his own loss and inability to get justice for his dead daughter, whilst the Sarah Polley character, although a teen, is able to move on and grieve in a much more mature way.

It's been a while since I've seen the film though, but they are my vague memories.
