Is it really that bad??
I've seen Speed which i like very much, but god is this one really that bad? Should i even bother?

No, it is not bad at all. IT is a good film and a worth sequel, 7/10 at a push 8/10, well worth a look if you enjoyed speed.
shareThis movie is not that bad. It just lost a colossal amount of money. Something like 150 mil budget vs. 40 mil domestic gross and not nearly enough overseas. It certainly started the end of Jan De Bont's directing career though.

The screenplay for the first film was written by Yost well before Jan de Bont was brought on to direct, and Whedon only did a week or so of rewrites before it went into production [mostly dialogue].
When it came to the sequel, Jan de Bont apparently turned down dozens of pitches, including Yosts - and he and Fox decided to make the sequel without Yost and Mark Gordon, who produced the first movie from the ground up. Jan de Bont then came up with the story for the sequel from a "nightmare" he had, then had McCormick and Nathanson write the movie from his idea - taking story by credit in the process. He ended up going way over budget as well, and production was reportedly a shit show.
Another good example of why most [key word: most, not all] directors are not writers or development executives.
