Don't get me wrong I love Scream 2, and it's my favorite sequel in the franchise but no way is comparable to the first film. I see a lot of people say they like it more than the original or its their favorite film in the series. It's their opinion but a lot of the characters sucked. Every character in Scream was great (even minor characters). Only Sidney, Gake, Randy, Dewey, and CiCi (in her scenes) were good in this film.
shareI go back and forth. Scream 2 has some amazing sequences (CiCi, cop car, opening), and Wes upped his directing game. But I guess I give Scream the edge because 2 feels a bit choppy and over-edited.
I don't think it's absurd that people prefer it, though.
I agree that it doesn't hold a candle to the first, but I don't think any of the characters in Scream 2 sucked.

shareI would say it was better. It was more serious which I enjoy because I couldn't really appreciate the satire of the first film. It just didn't do much for me as a matter of preference. I enjoy how this one was a more straightforward slasher films. Also, it didn't make it a point to name drop other horror movies at every single opportunity. Although there was a little of that it wasn't anywhere near as over-the-top as the first film. For me, the dialogue in the first film seemed kind of unnatural. You could tell a screenwriter wrote it because no one speaks in movie references every line of conversation.
So this movie took the basic formula of the first film but tweaked it here and there to improve on it, and I think it worked. The only complaint I have is that it felt a bit too long. They could've trimmed about 20 minutes from the running time.
In this movie Randy mentions more horror movies than all of the characters together in the first movie.

shareI think they were both on par with each other. The original is a classic, and this was the best of the sequels. Both are a 9 in my book.

No one from the sequel comes even close to as entertaining as them 2.
I didn't like any of the sequels that much. The idea was pretty tired by then.
