is it as good as the book?

I adore this book, one of my favorite Dean Koontz novels, but I haven't seen the movie yet. is it as gripping as the book? I'm not a very big fan of Ben Affleck, but I'm still interested in watching it.

but don't go by me... I broke a shoelace this morning...

I like Dean Koontz also. I haven't read "Phantoms," but I saw the movie, and it's not very good. Ben Affleck is in way over his head as a policeman who should have been played by a much older actor.

It's been several years since I saw this, but I remember being very disappointed. Bad acting, stupid effects, no tension whatsoever.

It's NEVER as good as the book.

As a guy whose favorite book is Koontz's "Phantoms", and has seen the movie...

No, it isn't. It's not good, period. But comparing it to the book can't be done. Not only did they omit some of the best characters (yes, major characters were dropped), lines (the Ancient Enemy's "Judas" line!?), and scenes in the adaptation process, they slaughtered what was left with crappy direction and effects.

I saw it because of how much I loved the book... but don't let curiousity get the better of you. Avoid it like a plague.

I read the book when I was 13 and when, years later, I saw the movie I was very dissappointed. In short: the movie sucks. No tension, no scary moments like in the book and an awful cast. I left the movie theater feeling like the film had been empty, I felt empty! If you really don't want to suffer severe dissappointment and a bit of anger, do not see this film.

I didn't really like the book but I like the movie.I do not enjoy Koontz as much as I love Stephen King.

The book is better but the film is worth seeing, that's for sure.

The book is much better. The movie killed off too many people who lived in the book. Plus, they left out the entire side story about a biker and a man who murdered his family (good story, and comes together at the end of the book)

The book is one of my favourites but the film struggles to do it justice. The opening half hour are OK but there a quite a few characters missing.
I guess it is difficult to fit a whole book into a film but if you cant do it right, why do it at all.

It's a nice try, but you are better off sticking with the book. Watch the film if you can see it for free or get it cheap on ebay.

I read Phantom's years ago and loved it. DK & Stephen King are Thee Master's of Literary Horror. But someone should have fired whoever cast this movie, because Ben Affleck is it's true one major flaw. The Wing-Nut just cannot Act!
Period! I am watching the movie right now as I type this as I taped it off cable some time ago and watch it every once in a while,...because (1) It has Joanna Going & Rose McGowan in it (Humma-Humma) and (2) Uh,.....uh,...Hey! It's got "Joanna Going" in it! But do not expect much,...and you won't be TOO disappointed. Just don't spend any money on it. Rock On!

I love the book. I hear the movie is bad, but I can't find it for sale anywhere, which is probably a good thing I supppose.

I hated the movie... if they had made it longer and not rushed to the ending... it could have been much better. I saw Ben Affleck and just about shot my TV. They totally screwed up the total story line. But for all the bad acting, effects, and missing aspects...It was ok...
