Do you think they will ever do another movie version of this book?

I think they will, eventually. I could see it being done as an HBO movie or mini - series, much like Mildred Pierce.

If they did, who do you think should play the characters?

I wonder if it would upset people as much as the this one or the other one did?

I think Kate Winslet could play Charlotte, haven't figured out who could play Lolita or Humbert yet. Benedict Cumbertbatch for Humbert, maybe?

It's really hard to say. The movie is quite disturbing; I haven't managed to finish it fully (only watched parts throughout). I would be very concerned for the criticism that would come about. I mean there already so many complaints, but I just feel like shows/movies modernly have to be treated sensitively. I think it would raise up more controversy which sucks, because many miss the point of the story to begin with. And then the problem with having it on HBO is the expectation for explication. I mean in this version, they showed their sexual relationship with "subtlety" and I think that was definitely enough.

I do like the story. Mainly because I am very into characters and development, and it does make you think. It was one of those relationships where you knew it would go wrong, but you wanted to know how so there was a hook there. You have these thoughts (if you've heard about it) prior thinking "Is it appropriate for me to watch?" And then I think you're too preoccupied with other questions and concerns while watching. I think the actress who played Lo did an amazing job simply for the fact that her character was very despicable, for good reason. (Humbert's point of view, so really no full access to what she went through and her thought process.) I would hope if they do a modern adaptation, the actress who would play her would do her character justice. (Full on behavior like someone inexperienced/mentally messed up/childish/playful/etc.) Also I imagine they would have to pick someone older that can pass as 12/14/18 (or at least 14) for legal purposes and an actor not too old? Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio wouldn't be such a bad choice or Patrick Dempsey (who I had to look up, age wise, and I am surprised he's almost 50 o.o)I would say maybe Sophie Turner (from GOT) who is 18 years old. Problem is I haven't seen her act in anything else (she's very serious in GOT) and she looks much older. I mean I would say it would have worked when she started Game of Thrones, but I feel like there is so much you can do with professional make-up these days.

I see where you're coming from about using an actress that's at least 18. An example of that is Alison Lohman's character in Matchstick Men. If you haven't seen that film, I HIGHLY recommend it, and won't give anything else away as far as the plot. She doesn't really have any controversial scenes though. Part of me would like to believe that there would be less controversy, but the other part of me remembers the trashing Dakota Fanning's parents got over allowing her to do Hounddog just several years ago, and knows better. All of the Mrs. Lovejoys out there would start crowing "The children! Won't someone think of the children!"

I hope sometime we will see another version. However, I've always thought it would make a better mini-series than a feature film. I'd love to see Masterpiece Theatre take it on.

Maybe it could be made soon but not sure since the world has gone a bitt prude when it comes to sex and nudity but if it would be made

Humbert : would be played by Ralph Fiennes
Lolita : Felicity Jones or Lily Collins
Charlotte : kate Winslet is a great option

Christoph Waltz would be a perfect match for Humbert

Actually, I would maybe pick him for Quilty. Humbert is only 37 in the book, and even though I love Ralph Fiennes, I think he would be too old for the part now. Tom Hiddleston, maybe? He doesn't look like Humbert did in the book, but neither did Jeremy Irons. Not sure about Lolita or Charlotte yet, but Charlotte would have to be played by someone who can make the character a bit sympathetic, like Shelly Winters did in the original movie. I always thought that Charlotte should have been played by Meryl Streep in this version, instead of Melanie Griffith. Griffith got on my last nerve, Streep would have nailed it, IMO. Maybe with the popularity of 50 Shades of Grey, people here in the states will become less prudish about sexual subject matter, and another version of this will get made.

If it's an European production, yes, I can see it happening. But Hollywood? No way!

By the way, whatever they do in the future, they will NEVER be able to top Lolita (1997). I simply can't think of a better way to tell that story as a feature film.

Adrian Lyne did it brilliantly and Irons and the rest of the cast were all spectacular. Add to that the great music and the amazing cinematography and you have a winner. The 1997 movie was provocative, but it was also subtle and quite elegant. It was the perfect approach, it was a great balance between shocking and elegant.

It's a very, very tricky thing to accomplish, but they did it. The movie is so good and memorable that I honestly don't even want to see another version of that story.

Besides, with all the touchy-feely PC crowd today, it would be EXTREMELY difficult to make another Lolita movie. Or Lolita mini-series.

No. Flat out, 100% absolutely no chance in hell, no. Not in today's America. People would call it an endorsement of pedophillia.

Now, a similar story where the roles are reversed and it's an older woman with a young boy? That, I can see happening, and I could see it being made in a way that makes the adult a victim. That would be praised by radical feminists and all their cohorts.

I thought I could paint it red, but I couldn't find enough goats.

Not until PC lunacy is done away with. I can't see the #metoo crowd allowing a film like this to be made now not unless they make Lolita the victim and change the whole point of the plot.

Being against pedophilia is not PC. Being pro pedo is SJW normal libertarianism today. Most men who support statutory rape and pedophilia would kill the perpetrator if it was their own daughter. Hypocrisy at its finest.
