Would this movie have been better or worse or as good (I think its great anyway)...

... if SPOILER ALERT, the villain or rather culprit was basically a serial killer and this film ended up being like the Norwegian answer to "Se7en" (1995) or would that be a rather boring and derivative cliché? Thanks.
