Where Were The Burglars Staying?

It showed them at a random house where they were staying for the duration of their mission to locate the chip. Did they break in knowing the owners were gone and take refuge there? That’d be a pretty big risk. I don’t think they had Airbnbs in ‘97. It’d make sense if they were staying at a hotel.
