Good Will Hunting + Minnie Driver = Ruined Movie

Ok kidding, I really love this film and it has held up well over time. But, Driver was horrible in every scene and does simply not have the acting chops for the role. Every character in the movie felt genuine and true, even Will's outrageous talent was believable because of the writing and Matt's natural acting. I still cringed almost every time Minnie came on screen. There was no chemistry. The fast forward button was pretty useful though :D

Apparently Harvey Weinstein was not a Minnie Driver advocate either. I agree with the O.P, there is something that just doesn't sit right for me. It's like I try to work out if she is good in the role or not - meaning if I have to think about it, she isn't. In saying that I'm not sure who they could have cast. Winslett is good in pretty much everything but I think she was starring in one of the biggest films ever during this time.

Well, I always thought that she was good. 

I also like her in this movie.

I could NOT disagree more with the OP. I just looked up GWH on IMBD after watching the scene in Skylar's (Minnie Driver) bedroom with Matt D., where they broke up. She owned the scene and when she cried out "Tell me you don't love me," it was fantastic and raw and real. I wondered if she was nominated for an Academy award, because she should have been.

reply

She certainly was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. :)

She was incredible in this film.

You're move, creep

She was cringe-worthy, especially in that tell me you love me scene.

I don't think so. She was great and added a lot in this. I honestly think her character was underused. I thought we'd have more closure about Skylar+Will relationship.
The whole cast was spot-on. It's a near perfect movie. I find a very fulfilling watch.

100% agreed. I felt she was great in Grosse Pointe Blank but in this she really screws it up. I tolerated her on the first few views but now I just change to another shows when her scenes come on.

The movie was already ruined from the start. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's childish script that borders on adolescent wish-fulfillment, never once convinced me in any way that it was anything resembling genuine, human drama.
