That director knew about Ethan Hawks being a invalid all along.

There was one scene where Ethan's invalid was showing, and the directory pointed on the screen and asked "is that the fly route we have been talking about?", and Ethan replied with a straight face "yes it is", to which the director looked a bit shocked and reposned with "quite right, quite right".
