Jude Law doing what he did made this movie.

I love it. Suicide in movies is always awesome :).

The scene brought me to my knees. And, how they mirrored it to the rocket doors shutting and igniting, just wow cinema right there. So unexpected, but obvious when you look in hindsight. 100%, absolute film.

*SPOILERS*

Someone pointed out that as he's dying, his silver medal seems to be gold due to the reflection of the flames, so he finally got what he wanted, in a tragic way.

Also his medal shows two people swimming - symbolic of anton and vincent competing (or maybe even him and vincent - achieving together...)

Great catch!

It certainly is a powerful scene, especially when one considers everything it entails (e.g., merging of Vincent/Eugene, shedding of the physical body (Jerome) to keep the spirit (Eugene) intact, the ultimate gesture of love and selflessness).

"[The ending] is a beautiful testament to the elemental fact that when all the static of our self-righteousness dies down, what remains between good people is only love" (Popova, 2019).
