In real life, would they really be able to go this far inside the police station for their loot and succeed?

Without IMMEDIATE SUSPICION and police interference? And also... If they knew or suspected it would get this far, could they have either devised another way of retrieving their stolen loot from a police station or somehow else or would they have to just let it go?
