It's ambiguous. There was some sort of sexualized kiss between Cisely and her father but who initiated it is up in the air.

Remember the opening monologue - the adult Eve says "Memory is a selection of images, some elusive, others printed indelibly on the brain."

The concept of "truth" is slippery. What's true to Cicely is not what's true to her father. Cicely has told herself one version of the events so often that she's no longer sure what's true. If you're willing to be absolutely honest with yourself, you'll find that you have these sorts of "memories" also - we all do. When Cicely and Eve touch hands and we see the memory, it's just flashes. The absolute truth is that Cicely no longer knows what is the truth.

so do you think eve felt guilty having her dad set up, not really knowing what he did or didn't do to cicely?

At the end, I took it as Eve finally seeing what happened, and from both perspectives. Yes, Cicely was "hurt" by her father, but not in the way she made it seem. And although Louis didn't intend this, his lack of control or resistance when it came to Cicely also caused that moment. The concept of truth, memory, and perspective in this film are all interchangeable.

To answer the last question, considering that Elzora made Eve believe that she had killed her father with voodoo, I'm sure that she felt directly responsible for his death. The voodoo itself wasn't real, but Eve hinting to Mr. Mereaux about her father and Mrs. Meraux's infidelity, caused Louis' death indirectly.

But then, if you want to get really technical, had Louis' left all these women alone, or least not spoken to Matty after her husband threatened him with a gun, he might still be alive.

Cicely had some type of infatuation with her father. As a father he adored her so much and assumed that the feeling was mutual so he couldn't see that she had unnatural feelings for him. The night that the kiss happened, he had been drinking and she came down to comfort him after she heard him and her mother fighting. She was the one who initiated the kiss. Because he was so drunk he didn't realize what she was doing right away and when he did he slapped her. The next day Cicely had realized that what she had done was wrong and became overcome with guilt and shame. Louis was trying to protect her by not telling anyone what she had done and basically trying to forget himself. When Cicely told the story to Eve it was a lie. She was trying to cover up what she had done by putting the blame on her father.
Eve believing the story, wanted revenge and asked Mozelle about Voodoo which raised suspicion. When Mozelle took Eve's hand, she actually saw Louis Kissing Cicely, which is what Eve thought had happened. She was lying when she pretending that she wasn't able to see anything. Mozelle confronted Louis about it and out of anger and protecting his daughter, he must have stormed out without defending himself then later wrote the letter to Mozelle. The letter that Louis wrote was what actually happened.
After her father was murdered, Eve stumbled across the letter that Louis had wrote to Mozelle. When Eve went to confront Cicely and while reading her mind she realized that Cicely's memory of that night was unclear and jumbled between the two stories. Possibly because of guilt, she was trying to convince herself that what see had originally told Eve was the truth.

This reminds me of a movie I saw on Netflix once. It was from India, about a lady, a bandit, and the ladies husband. Her husband died so the bandit was on trial. The interesting thing was that the court employed a medium to channel the husband so he could in effect provide testimony from the grave at the trial. Each person's story agreed on minor details but everyone's story was different when it came to relating how noble the story teller behaved during the events. Even the husband who had died was more concerned about everyone knowing how brave and great he had acted during his last moments then telling the truth of what actually had happened.

Arimas, I agree with everything you wrote except what Mozelle saw. I do not believe Mozelle saw the kiss. I truly believe she did not see anything when Eve gave her her hands.

Then why was Mozelle so shaken? I think she saw something but it was so blurry (not literally) she couldn't make out exactly what it was but she knew it was nothing good.
