Anyway, it is the thought that counts. It is not a survival how-to film.
I couldn't suspend disbelief on those scenes. But the rest of the movie was very suspenseful and entertaining.

Why can't a man hunt a grizzly? The method they used was very good. The spikes should have been longer, but other than that it was a sound technique for killing a bear.
The leathers they made were crude and only covered the top of their body. It's not hard to crudely tan leather. If you don't have salt, you can scrape it well and let it dry out. Its more prone to rot and infestation with bugs or bacteria, but it would serve their purposes for the time being.
