First two acts, 8/10. Final act? 1/10

I had put off watching this for 22 years. I finally decided to give it a go.

After getting over the 90s look and feel (I much prefer 80s sci-fi), I enjoyed the dialogue, the new concepts, and Ripley's new character.

The action was good and the under water escape was pretty gripping.

But then the 'mother' alien, a hybrid of human and alien. It looked ridiculous! It wasn't scary! Were we meant to feel bad for it? We even have Ripley tearing up as her child dies. Pretty much as far away from 'get away from her you bitch!' as you can get.

I'm shocked that they didn't reshoot the final act. Surely they knew they had a stinker when shown to test audiences.

They should have rewritten and reshot the 3rd act.

I mostly agree except that even in the first 2 acts, Ripley was a cringe-worthy character. One of the few Weaver films I didn't like her in.

A4 has good parts. I think it is far better than A3 even though it is closer to a sci-fi B-film. It has fantastic music.
