“Three Days of the Kahndo” S02E15

When they were in Mexico and got fined to pay the condo manager 8000 pesos, why didn’t they just pay it? They instead try to sneak across the border… I find it hard to believe that between all those adults they couldn’t come up with the money (it’s only $400 in American dollars according to the exchange I saw.) It wouldn’t be a good episode if that was the case though but I think they should have made the amount higher. They were probably also trying to say something about illegal border crossing?
