Original or extended version?

I think the title says it all, but I was wondering which version is better?

extended.

I haven't seen the director's cut, but with what I know of it, I think I'll probably prefer the theatrical.

The Director's Cut by a mile. This is my favorite extended version of a movie besides Lord of the Rings.

reply

Cool.

What's extra in the extended version? I've only seen the theatrical (about 20 times).

reply

Update, I scored the extended version and I'm watching it right now :D

I wasn't sold on the extended in the beginning because the scene in Guy's apartment kills the pacing. But it does better explain a few things. The Bass Player clapping along to the Chantrellines makes sense. Same with Lenny drawing on Boss Vic Koss' picture. The little things.

The way I've always looked at this is when it comes to movies I'm just OK with, the theatrical version usually is the best version for pace and continuity.

BUT:

There are movies I love and will watch every time they're on. Movies such as these I always prefer the extended/director's cut because it's just more of what I love.

That Thing You Do! fits that description, so the it's the extended for me. Your mileage may vary...
