The ending makes no sense (SPOILERS)

CAUTION: Here be Spoilers!

The ending makes no sense. They are out in the day time. It is revealed that Catherine is a vampire. If she was a vampire the day light would have killed her. No sense! Anybody else notice this?

When Rafe asks her what kind of perfume she has on she replies it's sun tan. She was wearing sun tan to protect her from the light.

BLADE had something like that too.

Even so, that's very silly. I thought idea in vampire lore was that any form of natural light would kill the vampire...? Even if you're wearing sun screen the light still hits the skin.

reply

Yeah, pretty much./ I never really like this movie's ending anyway.

reply

Agreed. I was upset that Dennis Miller became a vampire.

reply

Um, the movie is supposed to be silly. It doesn't take itself, or vampire lore, seriously. I mean, there's a scene where Dennis Miller and Chris Sarandon are killing a room full of vampires with super soakers. You were expecting this to be serious?

reply

Hey, super soakers and water balloons worked in From Dusk Till Dawn, and squirt guns worked in The lost Boys, didn't they?

And yes, the movie isn't made to be taken seriously, as it was an homage to the more comedic side of the Crypt series while Demon Knight was more so designed as horror/sci-fi.

But if you really want to to get technical, not only was she "wearing sunblock," but it was cloudy when they went outside, and the car was parked under a tree. All 3 could be considered effective enough protection. Then again, I'm just grasping at straws because I'm bored and I thought it was funny.

reply

It doesn't happen very often, but the Pope has been known to bless gatherings of the faithful, right from his balcony, using a super soaker filled with Holy Water.

The Holy Roman Inqirer has reported that, on a hot summer morning in 2013, his Holiness was able to bless an entire crowd of over 5,000 followers using only one reservoir of the Lustral Liquid. It is said that Holy Water washed over the masses without the need to pump or refill.

News of this miracle quickly spread and became known as the "Soaking in Square".
The Papacy has never issue a statement concerning the event.

Shes wearing SPF 250!!!

reply

Yes, it is silly. She doesn't have sunblock on her eyeballs, for sure. lol But this isn't the first movie to use this silly plot device.

reply

BLADE had something like that too.

Actually Blade is a Daywalker. He's half Vampire, which means he can go into the daylight without dying. "All of their strengths. None of their weaknesses."

reply

She was wearing sunblock, bro.

reply

Actually I think what the above poster was talking about is the part where Decon Frost meets Blade in the park.

reply

Ash, I was actually responding to the OP...........

"Beauty is the means which we use to measure our own vanity."

Cant people just take a movie as a movie?
has anyone actually met/knew a vampire, to you know maybe check if indeed they can go in daylight, if sunblock works? Can you really watch Lilith masturbate in a cheerleading outfit?

reply

Yeah, not much of anything in this movie, makes any sense. It's still pretty fun, though.

reply

Just saw the movie. I think it's because she wasn't a full vampire yet. Remember when the guy who got his neck broken was complaining to the head vampire woman and she said "and you're not even a full vampire yet, that's a process, wear sunscreen" or something of the sort. Since it'd only been a few hours since she'd been turned, I'm guessing Catherine likewise wasn't a full vampire yet.

reply

Yup.. pretty obvious it was cause she wasn't fully undead yet. Per the example given earlier in the film.

reply

Did she sparkle? Then shut up.

The movie Blade didn't just use sunblock for protection in the scene where Deacon Frost meets Blade in a park using a little girl as a hostage. Frost and his cronies also wear helmets and body-covering clothing during the "sunrise at the beach" scene where after ripping out a vampire elder's fangs, they let the sunrise roast him to death. Unlike the scene at the park though, the protection was more thorough and logical than sunblock.

Also, the "vampires are vulnerable to sunlight" aspect is actually not part of the lore at all but was rather invented by German filmmakers for the 1922 horror film Nosferatu and is thus as relevant to vampire lore as silver and full moons are to werewolf lore. Before Nosferatu was made, vampires in both lore and fiction were going out in daylight without harm, with the ORIGINAL incarnation of Dracula, as written by Bram Stoker, being a prominent example. Twilight continued this trend but unfortunately in one of the most ridiculous and lamest ways possible. Vampires sparkling in sunlight should NOT be used as the reason why they're mainly nocturnal. It just doesn't work.

She was wearing "Sunblock 5000", as advertised in Robocop 2 by that chick from the first Austin Powers movie.
